Re: How big is the sunless market?
Billable,
thanks for the reply. To answer your question on why I prefer one over the other. There are a few things I personally like with Mystic. - It sprays out like the name states first of all, in a mist. The Caltan sprays out more like a squirt gun in more copious amounts which makes it spray heavy and light on you at the same time. The mist is more even and less splotchy. The Caltan rubs off on my clothes right away despite drying myself really well and has actually perm stained some of my clothes. The Mystic way outlasts the Caltan in terms of looking like a fresh tan on my skin. I think because I am so fair skinned any type of bronzer is not forgiving and I just get great result with Mystic. The mystic fades off of your skin and the Caltan sloughs off in patches which means you have to hide your skin for a few days until it all scrubs off. THE ONLY drawback to mystic from my standpoint is the smell, but now that I use the mysticfresh I have no issues there. Again, I know many people that like and have no issues with the other sprays, I just love the quality of mystic as opposed to my experince with the others. Thanks for asking and take care. |

Re: How big is the sunless market?
i am lucky if we do 1 airbrush tan a week not counting my own session. i like the color and use it once a week. thankfully the unit was not a big investment. the sunless tan is just not requested very often in our area.

Re: How big is the sunless market?
Hindsight is 20/20.
Sunless was the single biggest mistake I made since I got into this business. (Second biggest mistake was retailing tan-thru swimsuits, but that is a different topic.)

We do fabulous in spray tanning in Florida..........We have both booth and airbrushing and it does very well....It's all about making sure your customers know what they are doing, how to care for it, and what to do in preparation. Believe me...Makes a huge difference and ONE really great spray will send u a few more...Believe me!!!!

Re: How big is the sunless market?
I think sunless booths are a whole different ball game than having it applied by a technician. The booths I have tried in the past are ridculous and I could tell that the first time I used them. The spray was completely irregular, crappy color, etc. I know many clients, friends and coworkers that did the booth once and won't ever do it again but have me spray them on a regular basis. I cannot imagine paying tens of thousands of dollars for one of those things.
I'm a nail technician and been in this industry for 10 years. I have been doing sunless tanning for approx. a year with a moderately priced hvlp machine. My total start up cost was under $1000. I'm busy. I do many repeat customers that take advantage of package pricing. Most of these people come in every week. I see alot of people for special occasions. And some people just pop in whenever. Also, I work in a salon that is right across the street from a tanning salon that also does sunless. I live in Florida. So it seems, there is a big market for it here. |
