I thought of offering unlimited sunless, and decided against it because I certainly have some tanorexics in my neck of the woods who would be in every four days, not exfoliate properly, and then end up looking like mud.
I do have a four session package for $75, and I call it a monthly package, for those clients who do come every week...It's there for them if they want it. But they can still take up to a year to use the sessions. I do think sunless is marketable to most as "special occasion" tanning, which is fine...There's usually enough special occasions with the general public to keep me in business. Another draw is the quickness of it all, time is a huge factor for a lot of my clients. Thirty minutes of your time and BOOM, you've got color~Not to forget those who can't tan traditionally for whatever reason. Jen |

I agree with abtanner and alohatanca. Baby boomers are becoming regular sunless tanners. Big concern with UV. Cancer scares and medication makes this generation who have tanned for years still want color and sunless is the only way they can achieve this. Yes, many seem to start with an "event" but then become regulars. I push the bonus benefit that while preparing their skin properly for sunless they are also ensuring that they moisturize regularly. Not to mention the sale of tan extenders and exfoliating lotions add to the botom line.

Re: How big is the sunless market?
From a consumer standpoint I have always loved mystic tanning and would pay whatever for it. What is really irritating is that so many salons are putting cheaper sprays in the mystic booths and still charging the mystic price and products. When you have used the mystic for years you can tell the second it sprays that it is a knockoff version. I have been to at least 8 salons here in Utah and I did not see the certification sticker BUT they were advertised as users by the mystic tanning homepage. For all the salons using the real mystic you should demand that mystic take the ones not certified off of thier homepage as Mystic retailers, you deserve to be there. I wrote Mystic a few times about that and they will not respond. Please keep the real mystic...we will be your repeat business...the Caltan is crap and I and many of my freinds are turning to other alternatives for UV less tanning because the real mystic user salons are getting fewer and harder to find. I appreciate the salons that have truth in advertising when they display the big yellow M in the window.

I can personally vouch for Shrish that she is not SPAMing, just vehemently defending a product she believes in and uses at her salon. She does live in Utah, but her salon is in Colorado Springs.

We use Mystic Premium exclusively - have since we opened. We recently switched to the "clear" formulation from the bronzer and have had NO complaints (most haven't even noticed!) but several compliments from those who used to dislike the "instant bronzer" that rubbed off on their clothes and sheets before taking that first shower. |

Re: How big is the sunless market?
By the way -- our Sunless market is actually INCREASING --- AND --- holding better price points than a year ago!
In addition, the price of the booths are DOWN and the price of solution is DOWN. So -- for us anway -- it is more profitable than ever. The Mystic booth was the one piece of equipment that I was LEAST sold on when we opened, but in the end, it has been a good investment (and yes, even though we bought in at the $30K booth price -- arrgh!:) ) |
