Rep Power: 0 | I think that some of you might have forgotten that there are millions of people that cannot be in uv for some reason or another. A great majority of my clients have had or had a scare with skin cancer. People with different kinds of cancer or diseases that cannot be in the sun or in a tanning bed, need an option too. Noone likes to be pale, you feel and look better when you have color. I also have many clients that have vitigillo (sp?), they look forward to coming to my salon to get their tan, so they are not so white, or to minimize their white spots so people don't stare so much. I feel that there is no way that sunless tanning is on it's way out. If anything as more people get educated about what uv does to your skin, uv tanning could be on the way out. Why do you think that so many salons are adding sunless tanning?? They know it is the future of tanning and to have it for the growing majority that wants it. Sorry ppl, its here to stay and the industry is growing. |

Rep Power: 0 | I forgot to say that all of my clients with cancer, skin cancer, skin cancer close call, vitigillo and lupus are weekly tanners. Oh, I forgot i have a client with skin grafts too, he cant be in the sun either, he tans weekly too. I also have alot for event tanners and some regular clients that tan 2-3 times a month. So are you're telling me that these people, that feel good about themselves and maybe for a week at a time feel normal, that otherwise cant get a tan from uv, are going to quit airbrush tanning?? That's Never going to happen! P.S. all I offer is Airbrush tanning........The tanning bed salon around the corner from me just went out of business this week. |

Rep Power: 21 | Jeni & Mike: Okay....First of all, I apologize because I totally didn't understand where you were coming from. I took your post to mean something completely different than what you intended....So basically, a big "NEVER MIND" is in order for that... But, to kind of give you an insight into my own personal experience after being in business for 2 years, I can tell you what trends I have seen, etc. Of my clients, around 40% of them are weekly tanners, like clockwork. Some buy packages, some don't, much in the same way some smokers buy packs, some buy cartons. As long as they come in, I don't care. I agree that the remainder of my clients are those who either have an event, or are just trying it out. Again, either is fine with me. As long as my book is filled, I'm happy. To better define event, I thought I'd make a list of why people are coming in and wanting color. Vacation Senior Pictures Racy Halloween costume Wedding (Either in the party or just attending) Chrismas Dances Social Dances Racy Halloween Costume Class Reunion 21st Birthday (Any big birthday applies as well) Family pictures Prom Graduation Fourth of July weekend Memorial Day So those are the ones off the top of my head...I can tell you on average I spray around 150-175 bodies per month. I compare each month's sales to the year before, and every single month this year has been four times the sales of the previous year. I will be better able to tell you how much the trend either rises or falls as time goes on, obviously. I don't know about upscale areas, because I'm not in one. (It's a spray tan , for God's sake, you know?) But I can tell you that the perception of a tan that is applied by a well-trained technician has the perception of value because the results are (again, in my own personal experience) superior to that of a booth application. The difference is, in the airbrushing game, 100% of the overall tan application is on my shoulders...In the booth application, 100% of the tan application is subject to how well the client prepares, like putting lotion onto the correct areas and the correct amount, etc. I don't know. All I know is I sprayed lots of people today for lots of different reasons. Time will tell the public's take on sunless applications and how long they will pay for it, I suppose. |
