Re: How big is the sunless market?
I bought my Mystic spray booth in Sept. 07' and it is AWESOME!! People are coming from everywhere to use it. If you advertise it the right way, you will do well. I bought a refurbished booth for $20,000 and have already made around $10,000. It is well worth it and the spray looks very natural. I am opening my 2nd salon next month & have already ordered my Mystic. You have to know how to sell it and advertise it.

For those of us who CANNOT tan (as in it would take me a million sessions at a normal UV bed, burning myself multiple times before I would see ANY results) the sunless is the way to go. I'm darker than I have ever been with one session, as compared to countless sessions with UV. For some people, this option is WAY better than UV beds. Also, I really don't feel that you can compare the sunless products available at the grocery store with an airbrush tan. I have used both, and have countless bottles of sunless products sitting around my bathroom that never worked or achieved horrible results. I have always been satisfied with my spray tans! |

Re: How big is the sunless market?
Maybe it's different for different areas of the world. People in Australia use the spray tans like crazy!! It's a BOOMING business over there. I live in Southern California & it's BOOMING here. BLONDIE, where are you located? There is a dire need for it out here. Maybe it's because we only have a few months of cold, then it's back to shorts & tank top weather. The flowers are already blooming in my neighborhood & it's supposed to be 71 degrees today. I am going to go outside & get my "vitamin D". But I'm also gonna get my spray tan :-)

Re: How big is the sunless market?
Well north of you, in upper WI (yes I like cheese, but not the Packers. I mean they are "ok" but, well anyway...).... in upper WI its a dying "fad" as some have put it. Out of the 30 or so salons around me, only two still do air-brushing - one being us - and only one has a booth. Our booth is in storage. At the peak there were 5 booths and 15 salons doing air-brush or both. So its REALLY died down big time. We have gone from 30 airbrush appointments a week down to two or three.
However, an airbrush only studio *may* do well up here. The perception being that its what they specialize in. So it really is different in different areas. Advertising and a quality job will be critical to start.
