I'm french, and i'm going to open a wellness center with a room totaly dedicated to sunless activities.
In France, this market is absolutely not developed, à few sunless booths (magic tan, instant tan... not much than 10 in Paris), and some beauty center got spray guns, but not high quality... You must now that in France UV bizness is difficult because of the health legislation which act to limit uv centers, so sunless is a great alternative... I think i will buy : - a California Tan booth (new, i've tried a lot of sunless booth in europe and US... and it's the only one providing a beautifull color with also Mystic ) - and a Fantazy tan equipement (not try yet, very design, 8 colors and many years of experience in sunless bizness ) Can I have your opinion about this equipment ? About the sunless activity in US ? (intetresting or not ) Financials forecosts ? Thanks !!! |

You may want to consider LVLP/HVLP spraying tanning equipment. You can start your sunless tanning business for the fraction of the cost of a tanning booth. You can then see how well sunless tanning will do in your location. Many tanning salons here in the States have tanning beds and sunless spraying as there is a good market for both. I'm sure you will here from many salon owners here in this forum.

I personally am not a fan of Fantasy Tan. I have not tried all of their solutions, but those I have tried I don't care for. They have certain restrictions...For instance, no one is allowed to purchase their solutions without purchasing a system from them first. So basically, anyone who has bought a system elsewhere first and then decided to try FT, is sol. Although, now that I think about it, I think they changed this and now offer what would be considered an "add-on" kit...I'll have to check for you. I think FT products are overpriced, IMO. Again, it's been a while since I looked around their site, so things may have changed. I'm not sure about their equipment, per se, I'm not even sure if they have HVLP/LVLP technology. There are probably around five or six GREAT products out there that do not cost an arm and a leg, and are reasonably priced as well. I saw on Ebay a couple of days ago Turbo Tan had their HVLP system "buy it now" price for $375. That's a HE11 of a deal! If I had the need for another system, I would've bought it myself. I can't speak for their solution or body products at all, but again, that's a heck of a deal. I'll find the link for you if you like. Personally, if sunless tanning is generally new to your area, I would go with a personalized spray system instead of a spray booth...Less money, better results for your clients. Jen www.abtan.com |

Don't buy any system until you have test driven it. Comparing sunless systems is like comparing apples and oranges. Know what juice is being used in the systems you test. Some apples spray orange juice.

Hello again oocciali
I think the California Tan Spray Booth is the most attractive booth I have seen to date. I love the look of it, the colours of it and I think it's so outside the square when it comes to booth design that I hate the fact that we didn't design it! But I have never tried it and have only seen the pictures of it on their website, and must say that some of the negative comments posted in this forum from the people who have tried it do concern me. Although do I care? It's so stunning to look at I would just love one just to stand on show in my window space .. who cares what the tan looks like *haha! Joking! However, I'm sure they will smooth out the wrinkles some day and as I said in an earlier post, as far as I'm concerned I have yet to find a spray booth that creates a 'perfect' tan - one that just takes an image of your body shape (warts and all) and analyses your skin type as you walk into the booth; then does a few ..*click, click clicks".. and gives you a perfect all-over, even spray tan that has been designed specifically for you; no need for the 'little booth dance' or after spray blending/towelling, or sticky barrier cream etc etc. I guess what I'm really saying is that in my humble opinion, whilst I'm sure there are some spectacular looking booths out there that might do a great job; to date I haven't yet found one that gives a tan as precise as one applied by a well trained tanning technician with a small silent hvlp sprayer and an 'absolutely stunning' solution that is touch dry instantly - in fact everything you can get from my company in sunny New Zealand (Along with some great views as seen in LOTR!) Phew, that's my biggest post to date .. and here I am still a newbie! Please don't class this as spamming We only sell in New Zealand and from my experience there aren't many Kiwi's on this forum. I agree with Ezliving_Jim - do your homework, go out and try all the others, find one that suits you, your salon, your target market and - of course - your budget. Best of luck in your new venture !! PS - Edited because it's bedtime here and my grammar was shocking *s* _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Lori on 2005-03-13 04:14 ] |

Dang it.. I forgot to say... You will find cheaper on EBay, might even find cheaper in your local hardware store.. but if you are just starting out in my opinion that's the worst thing you can do !! Cheap doesn't always mean less money! Think of your clients - and do unto them what you would want for yourself! I left another forum because many of the posters seemed interested in only buying the very cheapest of systems for the minimum amount of money, and complaining because they felt they were being ripped off by suppliers. What people with this mind set don't seem take into account is that they are getting ongoing support and full warranties on their systems; and the extra business that comes with being part of a 'brand' identity from a reputable supplier. What price peace of mind when you are providing a quality personal service eh?
Do your homework and find a supplier who is prepared to back you with warranties and ongoing technical support; a supplier who will work with you while you build your client base. Ask what marketing support they offer to drive clients to your salon. You may pay more up front but long term you will get a faster and much better return on your investment. OK I reckon I have exceeded my posts for today.. Off to bed now *niters!! |

Thanks Lori,
I've tried the Cal tan booth : very beautifull color, but problems on foots (trickle).. And you must tell me how you do for your hands : when your are going to wash your hands again, and again... the colour left ! What i can do to preserve an identique colour on my hands ??? You said that you have found the perfect booth, for a perfect tan ? What's the brand ?? And If i've well understand (my english is not perfect !), you use an ordinary spray gun with HVLP technology (???), and then you use your specific tanning solution ? That's it ??? So what's the brand of your tanning solution ?? More precisely, you own a tanning salon with UV and sunless, a beaty institue or a wellness center ? Good profits with this activity ?? I'm doing my business plan, and it provide me a better view of this bisness... Thanks !!! |
