I like the concept of mobile tanning. I do not want to work in a salon and share the income. Anyone doing this? How easy is it to get customers?

Thanks,
Alexandria

I run a mobile Airbrush Tanning Service. I live in a small town so I pretty much cover a 20 mile area.(four small towns.) Most clients like the fact that I go to their homes or office. I have a few clients that like the fact that they don't have to find someone to watch their children while they are at an appointment. I found that a lot of Men would rather have it done at home than go into a salon. I've had clients who have had Tanning Party's. A group of friends would get together, have wine and chat while one is in a private room getting sprayed. Women love it. I had a client have a pre "Winter Formal" tanning session with six of her friends. I give the host a free tan if she has four new paying clients at her party. The party thing is the way to go when you have a mobile service. It can be a bit exhausting having to drive out to your destination, setting up your system, preping your client, spraying your client, cleaning up and packing your system back up. It's a great service, but you have to be willing to work, it is a bit of work.
Good luck with your business.

sit outside your local baseball/hockey/basketball arena and spray tatooes. Just be careful with the legal infringements (team logos).

Do you go to someone’s home by yourself? Or do you have an assistant that comes with you? Do you know them first? Or are you walking into it blind?

I do mobile and just recently rented my own space. I personally went to peoples home alone and never had any problem. I always left the address of where I was going to be with my husband and the phone number. The one disadvantage of being mobile is the time it takes to clean up and set up. It isn't bad...it just takes longer than the session itself. It is much better if you are tanning more than one client at the same time. I gace discounts for multiple people at the same location.
Good luck!

Kay, I pretty much do the same as Sunontherun did. I always leave the name, address and phone # to where I am going to be. Most of my clients are people I know, or they usually know someone who knows me. I have lived in this small town all my life, and most all of my client are referals from friends and acquaintences. I do understand your concern, but I also do my homework. If I'm not sure of a person or I don't know who they are, I ask around and always find someone who knows about them. If I did have concerns, I would take someone along with me as an assistant. I guess I kind of have an advantage knowing a lot of people in my community. Thanks for the question.

I do airbrush tanning in a local salon. I live in a very small town...about 3200 people...and we have about 5 salons in town. The problem I am having is that people are very loyal to "their" salons and don't want to go to a competing salon for a new service. I am the only one in town who does airbrush tanning. I was thinking I may draw more business if I were to run it out of my home as a home-based business since tanning isnt governed in our state. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Again,
My mom and I decided to go with Self Expressions Pampering Home Parties. We started 3 weeks ago and it is so profitable. We keep 100% of our airbrush tanning income from the parties and also 25% of all our spa product sales. I made over $275 each party so far and have booked these parties really easily! The company provided invitations, a training manual, videos and all my start up products including our compressor and airbrush solution . This has been so cool!
