Rep Power: 21 | Well, yes, you do have another staff member to pay. BUT...Airbrushing OR spray booth applications are NOT conducive to walk in business. Largely due to the fact that if you want your clients to have good results, AND come back, there is simple preparation a client needs to do. Exfoliation, no lotions, deodorants, etc. So, it is very conceivable since you are a beginning business to set sessions up by appointment only. Perhaps you only have an employee (or yourself) slated to spray on Thursdays or Fridays, between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. or something. It's YOUR baby, do what you want, and do it so it makes sense for you. I say Thursdays or Fridays because those tend to be my busiest days of the week. A typical airbrush session takes around 30 minutes. This is not your time in the room. This includes the time it takes for the client to get undressed and dressed again. The spraying takes around five minutes. It's not just my clients who tell me about their negative experiences with spray booths. I tried them over and over when they first came out, and had nothing but negative results. Ridiculous feet and hands. And yes, I used enough barrier cream to moisturize an elephant. My clients don't have to towel off afterwards, etc. Jen www.abtan.com |

Rep Power: 22 | We have a new self cleaning booth. You can get it new for around 15k. Why 10k on an old one when you can get a new one. PM i will give you the name of the company. I dont want to see anyone naked or in a bathing suit(well some people). I hit ours once a week and am very pleased. With prep time and spraying and cleaning and can be done in less than 5 minutes. The only complaint we have had is the person wanted to be darker. Well that can be fixed. We have done well over 300 sessions since we have had it. New customers count is very high but dont have it off hand. We have more repeats than new customers - so that is good. I will not bash airbrush i have not done it. If you can afford the booth though i just dont see the reason to airbrush . |

Rep Power: 0 | I agree with all the comments about booths. I think the idea of them is great but they probably need to touch a few things up so people don't get stained palms and whinge about the results. I use 2 spray machines in my salon, a cyclone system (its a HVLP and only takes 5 minutes to spray)and then the regular compressor (Iwata is a good brand) and with my gun this method takes about 15mins, same as an airbrush I guess. I think when u are starting a business you want to do things right but you also need to consider your costs. I would definetly suggest starting out with a hand help application then maybe introduce a booth in a few months or so when you have a client base and that way you can announce it as a new edition to the salon and your existing customers will more than likely try it. Spend your booth money on marketing to your target group!!!!! |

Rep Power: 0 | we did just that, we had true-hvlps at the three stores --- then we added a booth at one store. at the one location they still offer the true-hvlp and the booth.. the true-hvlp is still requested more and we charge $10 more for the hand application! |

Rep Power: 24 | Air brushing is a thing of the past, I have an HVLP system and it takes me about 5 min to spray an entire body, they are in & out in 15 min. Just tried the breeze #9, wow, gives a beautiful golden tan. |
