Rep Power: 0 | Okay, it was a cheap title to get you to read.....Salon owners across the country are having huge success with Sunless....its a part of the mix....what percentage of sales is sunless creating? What beds are the best? I know we belive Mystic...is the next "Kleenex" but do consumers know the difference? I have seen a older clientele come in for Sunless...a market that I think would never have tanned....except for Sunless..... |

Rep Power: 25 | I was VERY skeptical about sunless - I like to TAN. Added Mystic anyway. It was, and remains, about 1/3 of our business (in terms of visits - more so in terms of revenue)! And of the 4 salons within 1/4 of each other where I am, 3 of us have it (all Mystic). Price is dropping, no doubt (although now the booth price has dropped too). But definitely see a customer we wouldn't otherwise be seeing. The "my husband is a dermotologist and won't let me tan", "I have had skin cancer or pre-cancerous spots", "My daughter is 13 and I don't want her tanning", "My daughter is getting ready for prom and we are doing it togethet as a mother/daugher bonding thing" (in this case, the grandma came too for 3 generations!), "I'm pregnant", as well as the many getting ready for "events" and even vacations to warm climates! (they do some base tanning, but add the spray at the end so the first 2 days in their bathing suit they look good - even though they are told it will fade quickly if they go in the hot tub/pool,...). Even more men using it then I ever would have suspected! And, as Dwhite6872 points out, we also do a fair amount of "cocktails" with our regular tanners, who like it to hurry their initial results, to get even darker, or who like the extra moisturizing components that all the aloe vera gives them. We "pitch" our high pressure/sunless combo the most (and is the most popular), but they can add it to any bed session and have seen clients do it from all levels of beds. People in my area definitely call looking for "Mystic Tan" - even though, they sometimes think they did Mystic Tan elsewhere when they just did a " spray tan ". We put the big Mystic poster in our front window and they seem to "know" what that is and it gets them to come in. We also have gotten calls from new customers directed to us from their website (put in a zipcode, it pulls up the closest salons that have it). I wouldn't be without it in the salon. But to be successful, make sure you pick your booth (or whatever) and solution CAREFULLY and train your staff WELL so they know how to train clients on proper techniques. Not all delivery systems work equally well (Mystic is not the ONLY good one, but it is one of the better ones), and what solution you use can make a BIG difference as well! We get clients all the time that tell us they see noticeable differences in their results from our salon and think other salons are "watering it down" or doing something funky with the solution . We advertise that we exclusively use the PREMIUM version of the MT spray (less smell, more color, longer lasting), and that seems to give us an "edge" as well when people call to price shop or when people think about salon hopping! All in all - I still like to TAN. But I am a believer from the business side of the salon. And, I actually find myself that I am oftentimes too lazy/busy to take the 15 minutes to lay in a bed and go back and grab a 60 second spray instead! _________________ [ This Message was edited by: sunsally on 2005-01-05 07:37 ] |

Rep Power: 28 | I too, like you sunsally like UV tanning. However, since adding Mystic to our business, we have seen a client walk into the door that has passed us by in the past. I do have some that started to just do mystic and once they see the beds some also use the beds too. I have alot of "cocktailers" these days. We have put Robes in all of the rooms if they decide to Mystic the same day, they don't have to get dressed and undressed again... They seem to appreciate it. Adding mystic has really increased out business by @33%! |

Rep Power: 21 | Although I will argue which booth is the better, I agree with the ovrall thread. Sunless is here and her to stay. It can be called the alternative tan, it can be called the fake tan, but all in all, it is bringing the newer level of customer in to the tanning salons. The cost of the equipment has not dropped as much as you may think. For those of you that like the "plastic" booths, plastic prices have dropped, but the cost of the components have gone up. For those that are believers in 100% stainless, I can guarantee that stainless prices have gone up. When you combine the cost of manufacturing a quality booth, the overall cost has risen for the manufacturer, but most have attempted to stabalize their pricing. Current prices rance between $25,000 and $40,000 for a quality booth. You can find pricing as low as $18,000, but check out the quality. Also remember that the $40,000 is not necessarilly the best quality. Be aware of other costs when considering a sunless. Shipping, set-up, solutions, assessories, even the compressor (if it a compressor unit). Lastly, look into the warranty. Most manufactures offer a one year unlimited or a 2 year limited. Some will offer you a "Package" to purchase a 3 year warranty. There is only one manufacturer that offers a full 3 year unlimited warranty. The point remains that sunless is here and needs to be seriously considered as an part of your salon. |
