Rep Power: 21 | I personally do not spray pregnant women in my studio for a number of reasons. 1) The floor in the room in which I spray can get quite slick after a number of consecutive clients...I can't mop it between each one, and my clients wear feet stickers, so it can be slick to begin with. 2) There hasn't been any testing done regarding the effects of DHA inhalation on anyone, much less a pregnant woman...And there isn't likely to be any testing done in the near future. "All pregnant women, line up!" NOT likely. 3) There is a chemical reaction occurring between the DHA and the outermost layer of the skin. If you are familiar with pregnancy, most stylists will recommend waiting to have certain procedures done until after you have the baby...i.e., color/perming. If you didn't heed their recommendation and tried it anyway, you may have noticed the procedure didn't "take" as well as it would have before you were pregnant. Hormonal changes in a pregnant woman can affect the outcome of the tan...Birth control pills can affect the outcome of a sunless tan also. These are just a few, and I'm certain there's more, but mainly for me, it's a decision based on personal experience. I don't want anything to happen to my client's pregnancy anywhere down the road and have them asking themselves if this happened because they wanted a tan. It's just too easy to torture yourself when something like that happens and question everything you did during the pregnancy. Jen |

Rep Power: 21 | Since I use a Celebrity Tan booth, I don't worry about about slick and sticky floors. I agree that more precautions are necessary, however, there is no evidence of any reaction of DHA to the skin of pregnant women. I would be more inclined to insure that they are absolutely protected from any possible inhalation. Even though they could hold their breath through our application, I would insist that they use the plugs. If the refuse, then I would not let then tan. I have not run into this situation as yet, but that's how I plan on handling it. |
