Doc shook up the spray booth market again. There's goinmg to be two types of Mist-On booths. There's the original kind, like I have, that makes a true mist. Now there's a cheaper kind, one that just squirts it on you. I haven't heard anything about the tan form his new booth, but since the original kind is still twice the price, it must give a better tan. Here's the post from his website. Introducing the Mist-On Tan Express Technology by Dr. Laughlin $19,900 The originator of the sunless spray booth, Dr. Tom Laughlin, introduces another breakthrough in automated sunless tanning: A booth under $20,000 that gives you a tan approaching the quality you expect from a Mist-On Tan booth. What’s the difference between the Express booth and the original Mist-On Tan booth? According to Dr. Laughlin, “The main difference is that the Express is only the second best booth on the market. But it’s a lot more than just a stripped-down Mist-On Tan booth. We take our motto, Driven by Technology, Proven by Quality, very seriously. We used our seven years of experience as the technology leader in the sunless spray booth arena to identify special conditions that would allow the booth to be operated in a unique mode. A mode which would drastically reduces the booth cost, yet produce a tan comparable in quality to the Mist-On Tan.” While the two booths are very similar in appearance, the Express booth is a much simpler design. The key to its simplicity is the identification of conditions which allow the use of four nozzles using hydraulic atomization instead of eight nozzles using air atomization. “Combining recent advances in nozzle manufacturing along with critical adjustments in our sunless tanning solution and use of our misting column concept, we were able to produce an incredibly uniform spray profile,” explained Dr. Laughlin. The successful application of hydraulic atomization affords several other benefits: The Express booth completes the tanning process in just 30 seconds. The hydraulic atomization process greatly reduces potential inhalation and ingestion of tanning solution. Power requirements have been reduced to 110 volts, 20 amps. The simpler design makes do-it-yourself installation possible. Shipment of Mist-On Tan Express will begin in December. The $19,900 list price is being offered as an introductory special good through the end of the year. The #1 rated Mist-On Tan booth will continue to be offered for $39,900. Both the Mist-On Tan booth and the Express booth will be operated at the ITA Tanning Show in Orlando in mid-November. |
Whats he a Dr of? I know a Dr Pepper - is he that kind of doctor? |
What kind of Dr. is Dr. Pepper? |
If it squirts on you, you get sticky. YUK!!!!! In the Celebrity Tan booth you are surrounded in a fine mist that is warmed before being sprayed. No shock factor. |
Sounds like the quality of ""tan"" will be the same then........... |
Whats he squirting? |
Why would he be selling a "CHEAPER" booth? Doesn't it make sense that a cheaper booth means cheaper materials? If so, then cheaper materials means more break downs and less profit. No thanks... I prefer the booths that are made of better materials that will last longer. |
Agreed. |
You really want to know what kind of doctor he is! OK, this is from the About Us page of mist-on.com. What his bio doesn't say is that he's not a Dr. Pepper type, he's a diet coke addict. Dr. Tom Laughlin Dr. Laughlin is the president of both Laughlin Products, Inc. and Mist-On Systems, Inc. He holds the dominant patent in the spray booth industry along with 15 related patents. His long-time dream of building an “automated human paint booth” became reality in 1997 when Dr. Laughlin began a high-tech product-development venture with a Dallas based tanning-superstore chain. The goal of that venture was the market introduction of the first automated sunless spray-booth. The venture was very successful. In 1999, Dr. Laughlin licensed this chain to make and market their own specific design, which they trademarked as Mystic Tan. Dr. Laughlin formed and licensed his own company to make and market his preferred design, the Mist-On Tan booth. He recently licensed one of his European distributors, Jean Paul’s Tanning, to make and market its own design to the European market. Dr. Laughlin graduated from University of Louisiana, Lafayette, in 1974 with a BS in Physics. He received his Ph.D. in Biophysics from Florida State University in 1979. He served as a research associate at The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee until 1983, when he became the Senior Biophysicist at the Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1988, Dr. Laughlin was hired by Schering/Plough in Memphis, Tennessee as Principal Scientist and Project Manager, overseeing new product development and product improvement projects, concentrating on footcare and skincare products with emphasis in topical delivery in consumer products. Dr. Laughlin also worked to develop both over-the-counter and Rx products, including wart-removers, antifungal products, odor controllers and in-grown toenail relievers. In 1995 he moved to Texas to join Johnson & Johnson to manage project teams in development and 510k filing of new chemical disinfectants/sterilants for medical applications. These were global projects with interactions with sales, marketing production, R&D, regulatory and legal groups from Europe, Japan, Australia, South Africa, and Canada. |
