Does getting a spray on tan offer any protection at all from the sun or does a DHA tan (or any similiar solution) still sunburn just as if the person had not had the spray tan?

DHA solutions do not have an SPF (a few do) so you can get a sunburn. Sunless tans are just the apperance of a UV tan, not a real tan.

Thanks liz. Figured it was better to ask the obvious than assume and be wrong.

After doing a bit more research, I found the following quote on the http://www.tanningtraining.com web site:

"since sunless tanners do not involve the normal process of melanogenesis, the skin does not build up its defenses to UV radiation and is still susceptible to burning. At most, the DHA in self-tanners provide protection of an SPF 2 or 3 from UVB...

The brown color produced by DHA also may provide "significant protection" from UVA, according to results presented at the American Academy of Dermatology's 2000 annual meeting, but it is still a good idea for sunless tanners to wear sunscreen in the sun to prevent skin from burning..."

That is a load of crap. Painting yourself with house paint will provide you with SPF too. Covering yourself in road tar will provide an spf 80000.

The spray industry is gunna ABUSE their ability to good mouth their products till the day someone dies from drowning in one of those booths.
