Rep Power: 29 | What is HVLP and LVLP HVLP - High Volume/Low Pressure HVLP systems allow larger amounts of material to be delivered at lower pressure. These systems deliver air generated by a turbine to the spray gun via a flexible hose. The spray gun takes the high volume of air and reduces it to 4-10 psi (pounds per square inch) at 46-62 cfm (cubic feet per minute) allowing an even flow of the material with very little over-spray. The spray pattern of the HVLP gun can be set by adjusting the air cap in or out, thereby providing the amount and/or the fineness of the spray. A turbine is similar to a vacuum cleaner motor. Turbines are rated by stages, or the number of fans they have. There are typically one to four stages. The fans operate at about 20,000 rpm. Turbines are normally smaller than compressors and weigh considerably less. HVLP guns have larger passageways than compressor guns and airbrush guns. This is needed to accommodate the high volume of material passing through the fan under lower pressure. LVLP - Low Volume/Low Pressure Like HVLP, an LVLP system is turbine driven, but it operates at 1 psi pressure at the gun with 41 cfm. The fine spray is quick drying and has very little over spray. LVLP was designed specifically for applying tanning solutions and exfoliators. Comparison of spray systems: Conventional compressor 35-45 psi HVLP 4-10 psi LVLP Sprays of Rays 1 psi |

Rep Power: 0 | Good Educated Answer Engfant!!! I could have talked to you and saved myself alot of blood, sweat and tears! After countless hours of scouring the internet, reading message boards, and talking to (some high pressure, some nice & helpful) sales people I just ordered my Sprays of Rays II and am so overexcited I feel like a kid at Christmas!!! Since LVLP is a whole new breakthrough product to the Spray On industry it was difficult for me to locate people who use it but from the ones I did find here in Texas they could not say enough about it...One girl said she did not realize how ancient and slow her airbrush was until she got her Sprays of Rays II. She also said she has not had the overspray concerns that some of the people she knows that use HVLP have had. As I said in another chatboard they also offer a Tantalk discount so that is cool. I will let you all know as soon as I have put mine in action! -Kimberlee |

Rep Power: 0 | Thank you Engfant for the terrific explanation of HVLP and LVLP. We manufacture the Sprays of Rays tanning system and indeed came up with LVLP because to apply a tan you really only need 1 psi. HVLP systems are those made for spraying paints, lacquers, etc. using 2, 3 or 4 stage turbine systems. We use the smaller 1-stage turbine combined with an HVLP gun which produces just the right amount of air and product atomization for an even tan which can be applied in a fraction of the time airbrushing takes to apply. Here's our link if anyone is interested in more detail. http://www.spraysofrays.com Thanks for checking us out. Jayne |

Rep Power: 0 | What about the noise? All of these systems are rather noisy cause they are paint sprayers. Matter of fact there is absolutely no commercial system on the planet that was specifically designed for Airbrush tanning! We have a system called FlashBronze which is super quiet and the solution dries on contact. We are just laughing now as we steal all the competition in town!! |
