Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

Yeah, You really need a special place to do it without making a mess. I would not take it home and do it. JMO! I haven't seen a decline so much as in the time of year and events for it.

Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

I work at a salon and mobile. At salon I get 60% and they get 40. I provide all my own equipment and solutions. I sell exfolianting treatment and tan extenders which I give 40% to them as well minus the cost of the product. I carry my own insurance in addition to the salon having it.

Yes there are people running a spray business out of their home.

Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

you will see a decline in sunless if the people offering it in the area are making people look ridiculous with cheap equipment and solutions. did anyone see that MTV real life episode last night entitled "i'm dating someone older"? the girl on there looked soooo bad. you could tell she was spray tanned by the way her hands looked. if you're using a turbine to spray tan your clients, it wouldn't surprise in the least to hear your sunless market is in decline. in this industry results are most important, especially when the whole sunless game already has a bad name! how can you expect great results when you're blasting away at your clients with a huge gun? why in the world would your client's hands look perfect?

Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

Well GG I couldn't disagree with you more. I have an HVLP gun that does run off a turbine motor. That has NOTHING to do with it at all , it's all about the Tech knowing their equipment . Like anything else practice makes perfect . I can do 4 people an hour & have built a great Sunless business & have NEVER advertised , it's all repeats & referrals.

Cost of the solution doesn't mean a whole lot , I use to buy the real exspensive juice was terrible.

My system is more expensive than an airbrush w/compressor.

What gives it a bad name is those spray TECH's that have no business doing it due to lack of education , pratice and not preping / cleaning hands & feet after session.

Lack of or poor maintainance of equipment

No preparation on clients part

poor client instructions prior to session

poor choice of sunless solution

Too much solution applied to client

Not selling the appropriate products to prep with

Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

well it certainly sounds like you have it all figured out. kind of like riding your bicycle to work everyday tho, isn't it? i mean you've included so many extra steps to get good results. cleaning hands and feet? gross! what exactly do you mean by that? do you mean wiping off the excess solution that's accumulated on those areas? then you've proven my point exactly! the only time you would ever have to clean your customer's hands and feet is after they become over-saturated by your turbine-driven HVLP.

you're right about one thing tho; the fact that it takes three things to be successful.

The right equipment.

Customizable solutions.

Training to know what the heck you're doing/talking about.

A turbine just starts you out with a strike. I'm not saying you haven't figured your application process out and that you don't know what you're saying (afterall, you have 15,000 points, wow!) What i am saying is that you are hurting a lot of people's businesses by leading them to think that they can buy a cheap turbine, experiment with various solutions for months, and their sunless business is set! Training be ******. The fact is, if this method worked, the sunless market right now would slammin' because that's exactly what the majority of people have done. Instead, it's reputation is mud. It doesn't take a genius to see that cause and effect correlation.

Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

I use the hvlp machine and LOVE IT. I started out with the airbrush and when I heard about the hvlp I immediately got one. It is EASY to use, comes out flawless, and is quick. I do about 50 a week and business is steadily increasing from referrals and repeats. I would never think that spray tans are on the decline. That statement seems pretty far fetched to me :)

Re: Renting salon space for airbrushing- HELP!

I wish I could find someone to do HVLP for us out of my salon. I want to offer it, just don't want to be bothered with actually doing it. I offer 70% vut to my massage therapists, and would do the same thing.
