I was getting ready for work this morning. Following my usual routine, applying Aust Gold's Hot as a moisturizer when I heard from the other room. Tonights special report "Spray Tanning is it as safe as we think?" "Tonight at 10 what the FDA has to say."
I am planning on tuning in tonight on Atlanta's Fox 5 at 10:00 to see what they have trumped up to make Spray Tanning a bad alternative now. Hopefully they are going to be fair!! I am so sick of negative media about the tanning and sunless tanning industry. We are going to have to come up with an organization called Smart Sunless Tan to combat negative press in the media. If interested I will report further after catching the news story. |

There is a group ready to take the fight to the media. It's called the PTAF. See: http://www.ptaf.org
After a threshhold level of $10,000 is reached, a law firm can be hired to start fighting inaccurate anti-tanning stories in the media through the legal system. Until more salon owners decide that dermoterrorism is worth fighting, the anti-tanning forces will continue to abuse the tanning industry in the media. Only 18 supporters have so far contributed $6300.00 to the PTAF. That just isn't enough money to fight back. Everyone likes to complain. Only 18 contributors have put their money where it counts. _________________ It's Kill Bill Time! Kill MD SB-209! Support the PTAF. Jim. I heard about this news story...apparently they were doing an expose' on spray booths, and breathing in all the overspray. Well, basically their expose' did nothing more than question the safety of the overspray, and no conclusive data was reported as to exactly what the effects (if any) were on the client.

the local Fox affiliate in Denver did a story on Feb. 17 about not informing clients about the FDA reccomondations to wear eyewear, nose plugs, and lip balm. I was interviewed for the story and fortunately, the story was'nt too negative.
FOX in Detroit ran a story that was totally negative. This is the 3rd time I've seen a FOX affiliate take a turn at this story. Trust me, more local FOX stations will probably pick this up. Lee |

O.k. took a break from thinking about work and now I am back. They took hidden cameras in to 4 salons. The big corporate chain salon was painted as the "hero". They were following all the regulations and the 3 smaller salons were made to look stupid while the person who had the hidden camera asked them why they were not providing protection for their customers. One salon said they provided it but it was the customers choice to use the items. The second said they had no idea there was even an FDA study done and the last small salon had the warning from the FDA posted on their Mystic Booth atleast. My biggest question at this point is I do airbrush tanning for a small salon at night after I finish my distributor sales rep duties. Well the booths that spray people are a 60 second procress but airbrush takes up to 15 minutes. The protection to the customer being offered was nose plugs and they are told to hold their breath while in the booth. Well if we are in a room spraying for 15 minutes the customer can not hold their breath that long. So how can I protect my customer? I beleive DHA is safe but I do not blame someone for not wanting to inhale a whole mess of the stuff!!

Bungalow Girl,
I would not suggest inhaling anything but air (and in some places not even air). But, DHA will not penetrate below the top layer of skin (hense...the reason the tan only last 5 to 7 days) so absorption is not a factor. The FDA's only guideline that restricts the use in not allowing DHA to enter mucous membranes (eyes, lungs, lips or nostrals). HT2 |
