Need to get some current information on this topic. What's the latest about spray on booths introduced since last year? Anyone try the Miracle Mist? Isn't that another HT.
Which booths do you prefer, and why. Top250Salonstansyou,Have any more info on the booth you were speaking about in previous posts? Price,availability... What are all of your experiences with sales of late, how many customers per day average. Are you seeing as much action as you would like or do you find that people try these one or 2 times then don't come back?? Any advice is greatly appreciated!! |

When do you think that will happen? I have a chain moving in down the street from me and they have sunless. I really think I need one to compete. I have a great salon, great beds, good reputation etc. I just feel that I need the sunless in order to sustain my position.
Any one have any thoughts on this matter??? |

I'm going to repost my reply from another thread..more appropriate here.
I feel like what you are asking is something that can not be answered easily, especially on a bulletin board post. This is probably why you havent gotten a lot of help. Business factors such as gross and net income, salon size, money in the bank, tanners per day, location, and even your city's population all fit into the equation. What is good for my store may not be good for yours. What I CAN tell you is that I held out as long as I could. I did not want to buy a spray booth. There's no way ANYONE could've convinced me that spending $30,000 on a piece of equipment that was possibly part of a fad was going to benefit me, but now, thanks in a large part to the spray booth, I'm projecting our biggest year ever. You have probably seen other salon owners on this site "dissing" spray booths. I think thats because they feel, as I did, like they dont want to buy into the "fad". They list excuses like....its unproven...its unsafe....its in this year and will be gone next year.....it costs too much, etc. All valid points until you do the research with YOUR salon in mind. I am now a believer. It took my wife and employees to push hard enough for me to eventually give in and say "lets roll with the changes" and keep our business on the cutting edge. My competition here in my city are big franchises, all with at least 30 beds, and all with spray booths. I had to do it. Now that we have the booth, I have customers coming back to me that I havent seen in several months, if not more. Many have said they were going to the big franchises because they were using the spray booths, and as long as they were there they might as well tan there too. Not because they were unhappy with our store, but because they were offered something that I couldnt give them. Now that I can give them the same services as the franchises (actually better b/c Magic Tan blows Mystic Tan away), they are coming back. Its not like I lost droves of people mind you, but my eyes have been opened. Tanning has always taken a bad rap because of the "C word" and it probably always will. Now I have something to answer the "C word" with. |

ZAB, get a sunless asap. Spring is coming. It`s true I lost customers last spring ,before I had sunless. DON`T YOU GET TIRED OF PEOPLE CALLING AND ASKING FOR SOMETHING YOU DON`T HAVE? I sure do. And then they ask you " WHICH SALON HAS ONE ?" I hate that.

RandyR,Thanks for all your information!!I too am leaning towards a Magic. The apperance blows the Mistic away and tans seem to be equal.
The cost of solution however seems disproportinate to mystics, and cost per person (after solution, barrier cream, caps, mats etc.) seems to be around $7.00 or so is this accurate? Are you seeing a lot of return customers? How long have you had your unit and what are the pros and cons of Magic? TanQueen, Do you have a bronze mist and how are the results compared to magic or mystic?? Thanks All, I Appreciate any info you can give me!!! |

My cost per tan is WAY less than $7. I dont know where you got that number. Including solution, barrier cream, and shower caps its even less than $5. You must be basing your numbers on last year's model. I didnt include the cost of the booth or any uprgades to the room itself (mats, lighting, etc) I consider those costs to be added to the booth, not the cost of a tan. Yes, we have lots of return customers, and the spray tan itself is better than Mystic. My customers tell me this. They are bringing their friends who do Mystic and they have come back more than once.
