It's not an airbrush gun its a spray gun which applies faster, more evenly, fades completely evenly, with less overspray. You want to make sure you get something that's durable and won't have to replace for a long time. I've always had to replace my airbrush machines so I personally chose to spend a little more money for something that won't wear down quickly. It is extremely easy to use, fabulous results, your clients will never turn orange. I can assist you w/your menu and packages if you like. And there is a shimmer spray which is used over the bronzer.
Is the unit new? Can you email me pics of it and the backdrop? Where do I purchase the tan solution? Where do I get certified? What type of insurance do you recommend getting? Thank you

Hi tabathab,

Have you looked into Sol Potion? They have very reasonable priced starter kits. Their colors are beautiful and you can mix them together to make special shades for your clients. Their training is pricey, but you do have a one on one training session and you get certified. They also have a section on their website about how to build your business. It's worth checking it out.

I would appreciate any recommendations you may have (training, best airbrush machine, products and what you estimate the cost to get into the business to be).

I am located in Sonoma County (Santa Rosa, California) - Northern California.

Thank you so much,

Hey Tabatha.. I use Sjolie tanning products. They are located right past Sacramento. They are awesome! They may be able to refer you to someone that does private training.

Cost wise for their package plus machine is 450.00, training would be a little more.

Re: I want to start a mobile tanning business

Jelisa I was thinking about going with the maximist also, but was debating between that and the Apollo T100. Isn't it so hard trying to decide which equipment? Have you heard of the Solomist?

Also Chelegirl I have been reading about the different "levels" that solutions come in. what do they mean when they say 10% or level 9? I am assuming it is a darker or lighter color? so when it goes up it is lighter? so confused

Re: I want to start a mobile tanning business

Hi GloBug,

I use the Mini-Mobile from Sol Potion (which is the Apollo T100 - that's what the instruction book said). I love it. It works like a charm.

9, 10, 12, etc all refer to the amount of DHA that is in the solution. This will give you a range of how dark the person will get depending on the level you use. BUT be forwarned. If you spray someone with a shade that is just too dark for their skin tone, they will look funny and fade poorly.

Sol Potion has 4 levels of solution 9% is their lightest shade, 12% is their darkest shade. their colors go from a golden brown to a more red brown. I use the 9% on very fair skin people that have red undertones. The 9 has more golden tones to even out a person's red. On my darker clients I use a 10 or 11 1/2. I only use the 12% on clients who are super dark to begin with. I also mix the solutions to make my own colors for clients who are in between shades or want a darker color than their skin should be sprayed with.

I hope this helps with your decision making process.

Great info, thanks Chelegirl. Do you also use Sol Potion's skincare products i.e. tanning extenders or exfoliators?

Also did their package come with a training DVD?

Re: I want to start a mobile tanning business

Hey GloBug,

I sell a TON of the Sol Potion lotion. People love it. I usually sell Ritual to my clients who are going on a vacation and want to keep up their tan while their gone. I haven't sold a lot of their exfoliator, but my clients who buy it really like it. I bought a couple of Magic Wands. They are really cool, but only sold one so far.

They didn't have a DVD when I bought their package, it was just onsite training. It was pretty expensive but worth it cause I didn't have the first clue what I was doing. They not only trained me on the application but they went over how to work with my gun, how to handle client issues, mixing colors, how to work with new clients, etc. It was pretty thorough.

T100 is ok if you don' do large groups ie parties. Maximist performs well for large groups. I think its cheaper too.
