What is the best overspray booth in your opinion, Eileen? I have the Infinity Sun Spa, but don't have my booth yet. Hoping to get one really soon, but having a hard time deciding. I really think I need to get something semi-mobile so I can take it between my 2 salons as needed. Any advice?

Also, what else do you put in the spray room?

Re: Spray Tan Room Layout Ideas

My favorite right now is the iCabin. I still have the Eliminator III which is a stealth performer and very portable. I've never tried Infinity Sun's but it sounds very nice to me. If I were buying one I would go see it first. I think there is one not terribly far from where I am. I have some new photos but I have a job I need to complete tonight before I can do other things. :)

Re: Spray Tan Room Layout Ideas

a quote from their website: there is no safe form of UV tanning whether natural or via a sun-bed, which is why interest in airbrush tanning is literally exploding.

I dare say the answer would be a BIG FAT NO!

We think very differently. I go after the high end clientèle. My spray room is 18' x 24'. I give them every amenity I can think of to make their spray with us a step above anyone else. Of course I charge for it but with me they get excellent customer service. I'm not after the cheap clients. I might do a student special now that the parents can't handle their own job of parenting and letting government make their personal decisions for them.

Re: Spray Tan Room Layout Ideas

I get the high end clientele as well, i just dont need all that space. i have them change in the room so they are not uncomfortable walking partially dressed into the spray room.

I charge well for my services and they get excellent customer service as well...not sure how you got something different from my post. Plus my response was addressing the original poster...they were asking about space. I was letting them know what worked for me. we dont have much background on the person (at least i dont) so i was explaining how i look at sq foot. ;) i downsized from a large salon to my studio.

In a beauty service environment most upscale clientele are used to walking from one room to the next. That's why you have clients wear spa robes... as to allow them to be comfortable and covered. Maybe things are different on the west coast but hear on the east cost spas often have clients immediately change into robes and have their clothes and personal things either locked up in a locker or checked in at the coat check.

correct build out and planning of space and traffic flow is essential in a salon/studio; they actually cover this in cosmetology school in ny.... maybe california is different.

if you are a true salon/studio owner who is successful and becomes busy then you would definitely understand why having more than one room is essential in performing the services in a timely professional and upscale environment.

utilizing the four rooms that Gigi is planning on building out is actually good planning and is proactive with regard to performing spray tan services in a busy successful studio.

Im not a fan of having my clients leaving their clothes, jackets, shoes, and pocket books in the spray room.... as they could become damaged from possible over spray that may not be caught by the air filtration systems. plus dirty shoes are a no no on the spray room floor....plus solution residue on the floor... then having them trek that out to the rest of the space YUCK! just not very upscale.

how can a tech prepare for the next client if people are changing in the same room you spray them in? the tech has to leave and wait for the clients to dry a bit and then dress? then go back in and prep for the next client?! that would be a nightmare if you are truly busy with back to back appointments....

to each their own, but I believe Gigi is looking for feedback from people who actually own a physical location not mobile only business owners who do not have experience with salon/studio build outs.

I have alot of creative men in my family and was hoping to have them build me custom overspray booths or something unique and classy that will elminate the overspray and fumes?
Any advice on layout would be great. Photos would be awesome!
We will be using all brown tones throughout the boutique.
Thanks,

Hi Gigi

My spray room is 10x8 and my change room is the average size of a retail change room in dept stores ...

i opened my studio in August, I was mobile for 3 years.

I think the above ideas you have are excellent! a 10x10 room is an average size of a room in most tanning salons.

From my experience and actually owning a uv free studio, flow of your studio with regard to clients coming in and out of your studio is the most important thing to gauge when determining your build out plans.

so like i said previously i think your current plans are great! and youre blessed with the help from family and friends :)

I actually renovated (aestheically that is :) ) my spray room and am adding the finishing touches.... I have a busy weekend ahead, but will make a point to update my studio pictures here on my profile so you can check them out. If you would like I can send you the spray panel measurements and materials we used so you can use for a reference.

I highly would recommend listening to those users on this forum that actuallly have a physical location and are physical salon owners for feedback. Eileen for one is one of the allstars with a plethora of knowledge and experience, Collin on the other side of the pond is a great resource as well....

It nice that others give you feedback, but if they are mobile and dont own a storefront/salon/studio they really cant give you the advice and feedback youre searching for.

Youre on the right track and you will ROCK :)
