EXPLODING LAMPS!!! I have an weird situation. A customer has a Wolfe style bed with 3 facials. Two of the facials are exploding lamps. The bed was made by ETS for 220 volt service but someone put a buck booster on it kicking 208 up to 240. I pulled the booster, got it down to 210 but it's still exploding 500 watt 220 volt facial lamps. First thinking two of the three ballasts shorted inside from the high voltage but now I'm wondering if the ignitors are messed up. Anyone see this before? Thanks. Bed is ETS Model N-42VIPB Single Phase 220 volt 30 amp Exploding lamps are Classic OH C 580 SF - 80004457 500 watt ballasts are 400 Watt |

Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! Check the lamp holders - may be shot. See if there is a buckbooster for the facials themselves. If no, may need to turn that one off, and then boost the entire unit to the 220-230V range. We ran into that with a heartland bed once |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! THIS IS NOT A VERY GOOD TOPIC FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC. ARE YOU SAYING THE TWO QUARTZ LAMPS SHATTER AT START UP EACH TIME YOU INSTALL A NEW LAMP? ALSO, THAT BED ONLY HAS ONE MIRRORED FILTER GLASS AND NO CLEAR GLASS TO PROTECT THE FILTER. |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! what replacement HP went into the bed? same as the one that work or difference from homedepot |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! So here we go. this Utah Jake posts that his quartz lamps are exploding. really sounds like propaganda to me. (PLEASE DONT DRY YOUR POODLE IN YOUR MICROWAVE) |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! Sorry I haven't been getting notifications when you all replied. Yep I'm real and I suspect the ballasts were overheated to the point the windings shorted inside. I have seen this on locomotives and radio equipment so why not tanning beds. (did I mention I have been a diesel locomotive electrician for 40 years and built ham radios for 50?) Anyway I will be changing those out this week and post results. |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! Once again, are you saying that the lamps you install shatter at start up ? |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! Sorry....yes the lamps shatter with a bang on ignition. The owner went through four lamps before calling me, then blew one up while i watched. |
Re: EXPLODING LAMPS!!! That bed is famous for having internal melt downs inside the cables from the ballast trays . That would explain the extreme falilure in those two quartz lamp circuits. |
