Lamps just turned on by them selves??? Won't shut off...

Older Prosun Luxura just decided to turn on today! 5 or 6 lamps in the canopy and same in the bench turned on and won't turn off. No fans on, the bed isn't running, no time sent to it, nothing.

Any thoughts?

I've heard of lamps not turning off, but just turning on at random?

Thanks ya'll

Re: Lamps just turned on by them selves??? Won't shut off...

humm strange !

i assume you already tried it but... turn off the breaker for 10 minutes

as i don't have the electric drawings of these bed i'm a bit confused because there should be a relay for the top and a relay for the bottom but maybe it's wired differently. So... i would check the relays turn off the breaker, open the bed and slightly tap on the relays with a screwdriver handle on all sides... There should be 2-3 of them in your bed... in doubt search 220v tanning bed contactor in google.

then turn the breaker on again.

IF YOU'RE NOT KNOWING WHAT YOU DO DON'T DO IT

Yeah, tried turning off the breaker earlier to no avail, looking to check out the relays later when things slow down in the salon. Will post what I find if anything..

Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: Lamps just turned on by them selves??? Won't shut off...

After digging into this thing it looks like the bed doesn't have any relays, only a triac board. Does anyone know if this could be my problem?

I hear the new Pro Sun's are actually good beds. But the old Luxura is one of the worst
made beds I've ever had. Get rid of it before it burns the place down, SERIOUSLY!

Re: Lamps just turned on by them selves??? Won't shut off...

That bad?? I'm trying not to put any money into this thing as I have an ergoline 600 just sitting here in pieces. I wanted to run them both but now I'm thinking about just rolling the prosun out the front door. My only issue with that is that I don't want to trash a bed simply because I'm not understanding what could be a simple fix. Expensive fix = bed in trash, simple = bed back to work.

Thanks for the input though, leaning much more towards the junkman now!

Triacs short out. They cost a couple bucks are individually replaceable. I've replaced many on those 48 and 40 series beds. Not a big deal for someone that can do board level work.

Re: Lamps just turned on by them selves??? Won't shut off...

Awesome! Prosun just told me the triacs are not replaceable and that the board is trash.. Then tried to sell me a new bed?? Hmmm. Anyway, think I'm gonna find someone to replace these puppies like you say tanfxr and get on my way. The board looks perfectly fine, guess one simply failed.. Is it relatively simply to locate the failed triac? Is it basically a matter of soldering new ones on? Sorry so many questions.. Thanks a lot for the help y'all!!

Before you remove it, make sure the wire labels for all those "A", "a", "B", "b",... "J", "j", terminals are clearly readable. Those switch the line voltage on and off for the various groups of lamps, cooling fans, and body fans. Technically, if you identify the bad triac circuit, by unplugging ONE of the terminals and seeing what group of lamps it controls, you can actually cheat by doubling up on another circuit. As you will notice, many of the circuits are doubled up anyway. But the better way is to replace the bad triac.

All that is involved is removing that big black heatsink by unscrewing each of the 10 triac mounts from it, unsolder the bad triac, replace it by soldering on the new $5.00 replacement, apply new white heat sink compound to all the triacs where they attach to the heat sink. Screw down all the mounts for the black fin heat sink, and presto, it's repaired.

It sounds easy but should only be done by someone skilled in removing and replacing components on circuit boards. If you can't find anyone nearby that will do it, PM or email me and I will.
