Re: SonnenBraune 35/3 Conversion from 3 Phase?

Sorry about having the huge pictures! I typed my question earlier, but it seems it disappeared when I attached my first picture.

The first picture shows an area where something should be attached, but I did not get anything from the owner to put there. It is labeled "Multicolor". On all of the other prongs or pins that I attached to the ballast trays, the prongs/pins were attached to the part that has the wiring on it. On the one that is missing, it has the prong/pins attached to the ballast trays and is labeled multicolor. I don't know if I am missing a part, or if this is something that I don't need to worry about. Do you think I am missing something, or can I leave that area labeled Multicolor like it is?

I hope I got the rest of it hooked up right. I have the owners manuel with tons of wiring diagrams, but I have no clue how to read it. I hear these diagrams are hard to come by, so if anyone needs a copy, let me know and I'll mail you one. The manuel is for Sonnenbraune Body Style "A" Models 726, 726/1, 732, 732/3, Klassik Series.

Could the missing plug be for a timer or something? They were using a T-Max timer system in the salon. The black cord that you see in the photos is a timer cord.

Am I going to need to buy a T-Max timer to hook up in order to make the bed come on, or can I wire it up some other way and just use a digital timer? I don't mind buying the T-Max if it will work with this bed.

Thanks so much for all of your help.

Re: SonnenBraune 35/3 Conversion from 3 Phase?

Here you go.

As for the timer, you can use a twist style intermatic timer from Home Depot as a timer. Just do not bypass it and rely on an alarm. You can fall asleep and not get up. Ouch!!!

You can get one like this in a 15 or 30 minute configuration and mount it in a single gang electrical box and just run the cord into it that is on the bed. They are cheap and reliable.

Re: SonnenBraune 35/3 Conversion from 3 Phase?

I'll pick up one of the timers at Home Depot, Brian, but the first part after "Here you go", the picture or attachment is just showing up as a question mark and won't let me open it.

I'm using a Mac computer, so maybe that's why I can't see whatever it is. Still wondering if I'm missing a part or if it's good to go like it is with nothing on those prongs marked "Multicolor"??

Re: SonnenBraune 35/3 Conversion from 3 Phase?

Duh!!! Now I feel like a total idiot! Can you tell I'm a girl? I work on computers all day long, but I did not even notice that thing tucked up under there. Thank you so much. I could not have done this without your help!

Now, I've got to figure out if I need to use this Federal Pacific Transformer Buck Booster SB12N.500F that came with this bed. My husband still has to run a 220 line to the area, so we'll test the voltage after that and try to figure out the Buck Booster thing. I may indeed have a tan by Spring, thanks to you...

Re: SonnenBraune 35/3 Conversion from 3 Phase?

You will not need the booster in your house as your electric service will already supply 230-240 volts to the bed. The transformer is only needed in a commercial setting that has 120/208 WYE three phase service. Residential power is the correct voltage without the need for the transformer so don't hook it up. Just directly connect your line voltage to the bed.

This bed runs on two hots and a ground, no neutral.

Wow, I can't thank you enough for all your help. That's the end of my questions unless something does not work when we hook it up. This bed appears to be in amazing condition. I only paid 500.00 bucks for it, so I feel like I really got a great deal on it. The owners said it has a one "flickering facial bulb", so if it gets to be a problem, we'll have to troubleshoot that. From what I've read, that probably means an ignitor is bad.

Can't wait to see those lights burning! My husband says he'll run the line tomorrow so we can hook her up. Thanks again.

Re: SonnenBraune 35/3 Conversion from 3 Phase?

Could be an ignitor, lamp, or lampholder, bad connection, broken wire... If you need parts then let me know.

Also, if you want better lamps for it then let me know. Get it running first.
