One Facial bulb MUCH brighter than the others

After fixing a control panel problem on an older UltraSun 5200 we finally got the facials back up and running. However we have now noticed that one of the bulbs (we replaced all of them with brand new bulbs as soon as we fixed the panel) The bed has 5 facials and the one that is different is the second one in from the front of the bed. We checked the ignitor ( I know it was not likely the problem but was an easy check with the cover of already) and it made no difference, as well as different bulbs (the old one was doing the same thing before we changed them) I ran a voltmeter across the bulb (at the edges of the white wires from teh bulbs) and all were pulling the same (+/-10v) of each other. We are stumped right now and are a bit scared to use the facials until we figure this out... anyone have any ideas?

btw I have been lurking around here for a while first post. thanks to all who have helped me before unknowingly.

Did a piece of filter glass get changed?

Is each facial driven by one ballast or a few? If it is a few then one ballast is bad. Run the bed and see which one is still cold.

Re: One Facial bulb MUCH brighter than the others

I "think" each lamp has its own, but I am not sure just yet. Been working all day and have not been to the salon yet. I was wondering if it could be a ballast, but I figured that would make it not as bright instead of brighter.

So it is burning brighter?

Did anyone evr change a piece of glass?

May still be a mis wired ballast. Could be tapped at a higher wattage.
See if they are all wired the same in the tray.

If the old lamp was burning brighter too, then it has to be a miss wired ballast. Check all the wiring for the facial lamps, and most likely you will find 2 ballasts wired togeather that are going to the one facial.

Re: One Facial bulb MUCH brighter than the others

the filter glass on that one looks a little cleaner than the others, but not enough to make as much of a difference as it does. I am going to trace back and check all of the ballasts tonight or tomorrow to check and see. just weird since the volt tests are all reading about the same.

Re: One Facial bulb MUCH brighter than the others

all of the glass and filter glass is in place. I am definetly going to check the ballasts, I just wish there was an easier way to test them and trace back. Will a toner work on the wires?

Re: One Facial bulb MUCH brighter than the others

There is. The ballasts will be MUCH DIFFERENT than the tube 160watt ballasts. More like 500watt x 2 for each facial (something like that). Since all the face lamps will have this setup (unless this bed has different wattage face lamps) there MIGHT be a ballast that's gone nuts and OVERDRIVING the lamps??? Maybe a capacitor???

It'd be MUCH EASIER if one was low and the rest were ok....I don't know why.

Re: One Facial bulb MUCH brighter than the others

Could be 300-500w ballast and one is tapped at 500w and the other two at 400w.

Could be a different piece of filter glass.

Could be a mystery we will never solve.

Could be a series of ballast driving each HP lamp and one is wired differently then the other two.
