Bed won't light up

I don't get the "tags" thing, any advice on that would be helpful..

Anyway, I have a Sunvision Pro 24s, the timer went out, and I have replced it, and it works correctly (now) When the timer says to kick the bed on, it just humms, no lights. The sound reminds me of (oddly enough) the sound a flouresent light makes when it won't light up.
Am I looking at transformer(s) or starter(s) OR???? Apparently there are NO qualified techs in our area, (thinking of changing occupations) so I'm really stuck here. anyone??

Take the cover of of the main contact relay and manualy push the plastic bar down that is on the top if the lamps light than you probaly have somthing hooked wrong on the timer.

Re: Bed won't light up

I was just in Redding last weekend. If none of the lamps are coming on check the contactor in the canopy, it operates the entire unit. Remove the two screws on the top of the contactor and remove the top. After that is done, you can use your finger or a screw driver to push on the contactor inside the contactor casing. If the lamps come on, you have a bad contactor. Let me know if you need one or if that is not the issue.

Re: Bed won't light up

Thanks NB for those words of wisdom. It really makes me feel better knowing you're on our side.

Now Joe, as soon as I actually have time to attempt that, I'll give it a shot, even though I really don't understand your suggestion, at least it's real advice. I'll do my best at it, and let you know. Thanks... And next time you're in town, stop by, eh?

Re: Bed won't light up

When you replaced the timer, did you replace the wires exactly in the position of the other wires on old timer? There shouldn't be a huming sound from your timer even if the contactor is bad. Make sure your by-pass plug is plugged in as well.

Re: Bed won't light up

Yeah, pretty sure about the wires. have now replaced the coil, but contacters will not engage correctly. checking incoming voltage now. still open for ideas..
thanks

Re: Bed won't light up

BigRick, I had the same thing happen to me today!! I have a sunstar zx32 and my timer seems fine but I noticed that I can set the t-max for the tan time needed but it doesn't give the clients the 3 minutes to put the lotion on, once I hit start it will bypass the 3 minute lotion time and start timing down....but the lamps won't ignite.

I have my electrician coming in tomorrow. I am guessing it may be the buck booster??? but what do I know. Hopefully he can help me and If so I will pass on any info that maybe helpfull to you as well. GL

Re: Bed won't light up

Big Rick, you replaced the coil? The coil is in the contactor. Let me know what year it its and i will see if I can fax you a schematic or you can go to etstans.com and find it. Follow each wire from the bypass plug to the timer and to the contactor and make sure they are in the correct position. You need 220 volts with this 2 pole breaker. Not that I'm saying you did this but I have seen people put 2 single pole breakers on the same leg of the breaker box and think they have 220 going to the bed.

Re: Bed won't light up

WAYTL71, do you have this sunstar on a Tmax manager or a 3A timer?
