Question Tinea Versicolor

Hi...
I just recently found out that I have Tinea Versicolor. I've researched it and what not. I'm curently using Denorex and just ordered a "tinea Versicolor kit" off amazon.

My main question is WHEN CAN I TAN AGAIN?!?! I've had this mess for about two or three years now. I've been treating it for about two weeks. So when do I know its safe to tan? I understand the white spots may not fade away. In my case i have not tanned for two years. I don't think I'm going to get much whiter (lol).

Re: Tinea Versicolor

The yeast is easy to kill, but it can take weeks or months for the skin to regain its normal color. Tanning just makes it look worse because the "spots" will not tan and the rest of the skin will. So, it is not that you have to stop tanning but more that your Tinea will be more pronounced if you tan.

You do know you can use Dandruff shampoo on the spots and not pay for expensive kits online? Look for the shampoos that contain selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, or pyrithione zinc.

Apply some to your problem areas and make sure it sits undisturbed for approx 15 minutes on your skin twice a day.

You will be surprised at how quickly the shampoo clears it up actually.

Question Re: Tinea Versicolor

I'm using Denorex. Which is a dandruff shampoo. The kit i purchased was inexpensive and recieved rave reviews.

When will I know to tan? I understand that the spots take months to clear. I also understand that in some cases they don't clear at all in which case the sufferer goes to the tanning bed and the spots tan with the rest of the skin.

How does someone know its gone?

Re: Tinea Versicolor

There are 2 things you can do to clear it up fast.

1. Head over to CVS, Wallgreens, etc, and get Extra Strength Selsun Blue Meditcated Shampoo.

2. Go to a local tanning salon and have them order... Norvell Halt.

The shampoo is stinky, but works well. Norvell is orderless and clear.

It will take 2 to 3 weeks of FAITHFULL application of the products, twice(2) daily to the affected areas to kill the fungus. Once the fungus is killed, your skin will slowly start to tan in the affected areas.

Do a once a week treatment with the products from then on out.

Re: Tinea Versicolor

If you take a more proactive approach you stand a better chance of healing more quickly. Depending on the severity of the outbreak it can take up to six months to heal.

In addition, you can eat the yogurts that have probiotics in them. Probiotics are a good bacteria that goes after the out of control yeast under the skin.
