Ok NOW we are slinging the hosshit! I thought you were against this nonsense of "bashing one to promote another"!?!?!

Yeah, and spray tanning is the "safe alternative". Both of these safer alternatives have this one problem...THEY DO NOTHING. You have to BELIEVE they are working as well as straight up tanning.

With tanning, it just works....real fast...one shot. Not IN A FEW WEEKS YOU'LL NOTICE YOUR WALLET GETTING THINNER, TIGHTER....

Bunch of horse crap.
Where do you see me bashing tanning? Eggy, you're reading between lines that aren't there. LED and Red and Infrared Light Therapy works by regulating oil production and distribution in the skin. The light is also PROVEN to speed up the healing process of wounds (such as acne and psoriasis).

Tanning clears up acne by killing the bacteria that causes acne but does nothing to regulate oil production in the skin.

I'm not bashing anything, those are just the characteristics of different forms of treatment. If you've ever had acne, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea and haven't tried red/infrared light therapy yet, I suggest you try it before you write it off as snake oil.

As far as wrinkles, collagen, and elastin are concerned. I'm a little more skeptical. I haven't seen any visible results when clients are using light therapy for this reason. They see an improvement in skin tone, but that's about it.

The other conditions I wrote about though, probably 99% of my clients are satisfied with their results.

Actually, that might work although its far better to get an actual acne lamp. Research has shown that phototherapy does help to get rid of acne. See this post on phototherapy for more information.

You people are all wet. Stop misleading poor Mark Penney.

1. SAD light boxes are white visible light... no impact on acne.
2. UVB does not destroy acne bacteria... it stimulates melanin and vitamin D... and helps with psoriasis... no impact on acne.
3. UVA does nothing for acne... it just oxidizes melanin and "tans" you.
4. Red and IR light is for collegen rejuvination... maybe helps acne "pits" but no cure.

The ONLY wavelengths that FIX acne are blue light 415-435nm. The bluish light you "see" from tanning lamps is 405 and 435nm....so it does work but not super good.

You can google " acne lamps " and find the "real thing" like they use in derm offices. I doubt if a blacklight "bulb" qualifies... but it would have a few 405nm rays.

Spam alert: You can check how much acne-cure rays with Solarmeter Model 9.4 Blue Light meter: http://www.solarmeter.com/model94.html

Ha! Here is a clip from one of the turtle bulb ads on the internet...

'UVA wavelengths help to increase appetite, activity, and induce reproductive behavior in captive tortoises, turtles, lizards, chameleons, amphibians, and other reptiles. Also aids in Vitamin D3 synthesis and calcium absorption.

Two things;

1. WOW....UVA induces reproductive behavior???!!!!!! UVA increases appetite? I am SOOOOO going to have to market THAT!

UVA...natural VIAGRA!!

2. HOW is they can ADVERTISE the "healthly" benefits of UVA and we get the smackdown?!!!

Yes... they can say anything and most of it is true (for reptiles). FDA and FTC doesn't give a rat's rear end about reptiles.

We now sell almost half our UV meters to the reptile lighting field. Big deal over there. And on many blogs too. Too dammm bad tanning salons can't advertise health benefits of UVB.

Never thought about using my 5.0 to check my kids turtle light, came home with 2 (one for each) and been paying ever since. Heat lamps Uv lamps heat pads under their house.....

I am thinking turtle soup or more precisely African Desert Tortuise (sp) soup.

They say reptiles can "see" UVA... so your 5.0 would show you those rays from the turtle soup lamps. But UVB is what they need to stay alive. See here:

http://www.uvguide.co.uk/index.htm

So if you have a 6.0 meter that would be better. A 6.2 is best.

Back to pimples now....
