Cool Itchy redness???

I have a customer that got a reaction and I'm stumped. She used the suncapsule ultra 200 stand up unit for 9 min, which she has been using for a few weeks. Yesterday, she came out and said she had redness on her back that was very itchy. I assumed it was a little burnt, but it's not. Also, she has a tatto on her back that is red and swollen. She hasn't had problem in this bed before. She is using the same lotion, Monarchy, which she has been using for the past few weeks as well. I was thinking it is either sunburn or a heat rash, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts, or anyone run into a problem like this?

Re: Itchy redness???

Heat rash I am thinking. Unless you do some kinky stuff its hard to get tingle from a stand-up :)

I am betting she was outdoors at some point. Maybe even cutting the lawn a day or two before her session. Once it goes away she can tan again.

Re: Itchy redness???

Contact Dermatitis can be triggered by UV exposure. Ask her if she has changed moisturizer , fabric softener, detergent, hairspray/hair care. Also, is she storing her lotion in a cool, dry place. All too often this time of year people who leave lotion in their car get all kinds of funny crap happen to them. Extreme temperature change in a bottle of lotion causes mositure/condensation which harbors bacteria.

I think you can rule out a heat rash or sunburn if she's been using this stand-up for the past few weeks, unless like Unity said, she's also laying out.

Re: Itchy redness???

She said she hasn't been using anything different. No new moisturizers, detergents, ect. Thats one of the first things I asked her. She hasn't switched any products, not even hair products (she has long hair that covers most of her back). We took a look at our medication list, and she hasn't used anything on the list.

I'm just confused because the reaction is only on her back, and her tattoo which is on her lower back and is swollen as well. She's had the tattoo for over 2 years.

As far as the lotion, she buys a packet everytime she comes in. It is always the same lotion, Monarchy.

Re: Itchy redness???

Something to consider and typically it involves red ink;
Just because you get a tattoo and do not have a reaction a week later does not mean you are in the clear. Tattoo allergies sometimes do not show up right away. There have been cases where the allergy did not show up until years later. Usually, there is something that triggered the reaction to take place such as another tattoo (creating more exposure), change in weather or even a sickness. The treatment at this point is the same. Re: Itchy redness???

Just an FYI. I spoke with one of our salon managers the other day, and he had an interesting thing happen.

He had a client try out a sample of code and she had a terrible reaction to it. He had a similar reaction when he used the product, but since everyone else raved about it, he didn't think much about the problem when making the recommendation.

This is the crazy part; he had a suspicion it had something to do with the shirt the client was wearing. he asked her to bring it in. It was a black cotton shirt made in China. When he got his reaction from using Code he was also wearing a black cotton shirt made in China. The client agreed to use the Code again, this time wearing a regular old Malaysian Hanes t-shirt. No problem! He tried the same experiment the same night, and No Problem!

Maybe the **** we're getting from China contains some chemical that stays on the skin and reacts with some ingredients in tanning lotion. As far fetched as it might sound, I believe the Chinese are poisoning us.
