People need to stick to Internet Explorer cause it's the best and ditch the virus protection nonsense. It does nothing. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Is tanning in "moderation" dangerous? Oh, and on topic, I am very fair but can get VERY tan- Irish to start, French to finish. I tan for a week every other day at 3-5 minutes a pop - honestly. This is extreme, but I burn VERY easily. I move up by 2 mins the second week, but I keep my tans 2 days apart as long as there is no burning. I don't tan more than 3 days apart, or else I really have to start over. At that little amount of exposure, you lose what you have rather quickly. I usually increase by 2 mins each week, and once I get up to 14-16 cut back to 3 or 4 days apart. One *trick* I use is to throw in a Bronzing Bed (low UVB/high UVA) every 4th or 5th tan (although I never go the maximum time), so that way I look more tan while I'm still building my base and I don't feel so much like I'm wasting my time. You have to remember though - YOU DO NOT HAVE A BASE (or protective) TAN - that is, you can/will still get burned if you are over-exposed, be it outside or in a bed. And I always use a really nice bronzer. I only carry Cal Tan for now, so I started using Cypher Step 1 Bronzer when it came out, and after 1 tan in a regular bed (I did 5 mins because it's July) and 1 tan in a Bronzing Bed, I really looked like I'd been tanning for a while. Not super tan, just sun-kissed as my husband put it. Sorry - I am verbose. If you got this far, I hope you have a great tanning experience and don't ever burn again. I use Linux. IE sucks in an we-can-dominate-the-world kind of way. If I can't use Opera, I Go Go Mozilla. Yeaaaah Yea. But I love Opera - I has a lot of nice features, and a pretty name - which is really what matters.

As for the "fine people stuck in Microsoftland" I feel bad for them, but everyone's not as lucky as me when it comes to finding a soulmate that happens to be a SuperGenius (that's from a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon - he'd kill me if he knew I called him that on here). However, being a card carrying member of NOW, I do have my own opinion: Microsoft is BIG Business that runs LITTLE businesses into the ground, just like the Wal-Marts and Best Buys of the world. To me, being a small business, going with a company that isn't trying to take over the world but make it's place in the world better sits best with me. I'm so off track on this thread I feel guilty - sorry. But like I said - I have no idea how to start a post. I'll try to sign off now, but this site is addictive.

Hey - back on topic - I wish I would have had the advice you can get now back when I was slathering on the olive oil (pervert neighbor 'recommended' it) and laying out on a silver sheet (and I'm mostly IRISH). I am very fortunate I did not do severe damage. Seriously, to my amazement, people think I'm a college student at one of the universities near my salons and today is my half-birthday - half a year away from the big 4-0. Too bad that's my waist size too. But I started tanning responsibly right around '91 because I had a full-time job and couldn't get as much tan-time in outdoors. I found the right salon and with that bit of luck, a good lotion, and appropriate tanning times, I was able to save my self from being an alligator-skin handbag. Now I'm just a suede handbag - a big, cuddly one.
