Unhappy Burned, ouch!

I am very fare skinned. I haven't tanned in a long time. I went to a tanning salon today after researching my town I found the best one. I was told to lay in a bed for 7 min starting off because they "didn't want me to burn." Guess what? I'm burned. My back looks like a candy cane. I'm so upset about this. What do I do? Should I go back and continue to tan when the redness goes away to even it out? My friend went with me and the same thing happened to her. Is this normal?

I don't know if it matters but I'm currently using Hempz products because that's what they recommended to for me to use.

Re: Burned, ouch!

Just your back? I wonder if it was residual tingle lotion on the bed. Its REALLY hard to clean off with some lotions. Does not necessarily mean the bed was not sanitized, just not cleaned enough.

Are you red elsewhere?

Either way, if its a burn dont go tanning until it is gone!

Re: Burned, ouch!

the nonsense ads at the bottom of the thread? One came up for HiFlow Cats for a Mirage!

As for the burn victim, if you are getting striped then I'd use a different bed. The bed is probably a 24lamp or less with HiTans or junk equiv. No one should have to pay for such a horrid tan.

Re: Burned, ouch!

No, I'm red on my tummy, and the back of my legs, but the only the stripes are on my back. I wiped down the bed first befor I got in, just incase, because I'm weird about that. The place looks really clean. So, I'm not really sure. I'll go back again once the burn is gone and try again. I don't want to be rude but that's just not what I'm paying for.

Re: Burned, ouch!

Of course you are not paying for that! PROBLEM is that the "wive's tale" is that moderation is key BUT in tanning, moderation means keeping a base tan year round not one month on one month off. Starting people from super pale can be tricky cause who knows how your skin is going to react. It's when the most problems pop up cause the skin is just not ready.

Hopefully this is just temporary and you'll do fine the next time.

Re: Burned, ouch!

Didn't they do a skin analysis on you? Sounds engfant may have it right about the lamp. They may have relamped the bench with the wrong type of bulb which may be causing the striping...does the bed have reflectors? Check out the other units in the place. Call the salon and tell them you burned. They should freeze your package until the burn is gone - after all, you looked to them for their expert advice and misguided you.

Re: Burned, ouch!

Probably a combination of cheap hi-tans or "twister" bulbs and they changed only every other lamp. Result is always strips like tony the tiger...
