Rep Power: 0 | Hydration Station? Not even sure if this is the correct spot for this...but here goes.... Does anyone have/use a Hydration Station in their salon?? If so, I'd like to ask a question or two.... Seems our entire staff is in disagreement with the owner and he wants us to sell sessions HIS way...which, we all disagree isn't giving the client the full benefit of the treatment. I really don't know IF he'll EVER see it our way...but, thought I'd ask someone else who has one about their experiences. If nobody has one, I won't bother y'all ;) Thanks! |

He is a businessman....very good at 'business'...however, not an industry professional.....He doesn't really know much about the industry. He runs a successful restaurant and had a successful construction company..... So...this is why we question.... Thanks...here's the scoop.... Our sales rep/educator told him to have people tan 2-4 times and then have them do a HS session. Then, you are to sell them more sessions once they've done their first. HOWEVER, how I (& everyone else...including the mgr) see it is this way: Yes, they will notice softer skin after the session...but, how much color change are you going to really notice after only a few sessions of tanning? I would think (and have used it) you'd see better results and darker color after you have a good base color developed (after 2-3 weeks). I did this and saw a dramatic difference in color...so, I am a believer and have sold my beliefs to the clients. I would also assume your skin would get the bigger moisturizing benefit from having already tanned a couple weeks...versus just starting out...more tanning equals drier skin....better to use the HS when your skin is starting to really feel dry due to more UV exposure. HIS thinking is this: have them do a session after a couple tans, then sell them more sessions. Well, if the client has purchased a month of tanning, they are going to want a month of tanning....not spend more money to tan less....(does that make sense?) I can see if your month is up and you want to extend your tan without purchasing more UV tanning....that I do get...but we just don't get starting them out in the HS after only 3 sessions of UV exposure. (I remember trying it when i first started tanning...so i would know what I'm selling..... I don't recall seeing a difference in color at all when I first started vs. after tanning for 2.5 weeks. ) So, am I nuts or crazy??? thanks for the help....honest

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hydration Station? We have a hydration station. Our clients usually have dry skin when they come in to tan. The hydration gets them off to a good start on their tanning. Everyone wants immediate results, and this helps them see results. We recommend hydration as much as they need it, they know their skin, we explain moist skin accepts, dry skin repels. Our clients love the hydration and their tans. Lotions you use in the hydration are important, just like when tanning, wrong lotion you won't see results. Our staff experiments to see which combo works the best. Good Luck |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hydration Station? to sell the hydration AFTER their tanning sessions are over would be pointless. you'd want them to use the hydration BEFORE tanning. the hydration exfoliates your skin, so when you use it AFTER a tanning session , it isn't going to hold in your tan because its getting rid of the outer layer of dead skin (which can wash away some of your tan). If you hydrate first, you'll exfoliate and your skin will be PREPARED to tan. The hydration will drive the lotions deep into your skin so that when you DO tan , the UV rays will be absorbed deeper and your tan will last longer. ( by the way , I'm not the salon owner but I am an employee at the tanning salon and I am an avid user with the hydration station and then tanning AFTER. I've tried it both ways and hydrating first will give the best results.... this all from professional and personal experience : ) ) |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hydration Station? First....thanks Eileen...I appreciated your detailed answer & you sharing everything you did with me! Second, oreoruby....thank you for your input & sharing your experiences also. The whole problem I'm having with the boss is that he takes what the trainer says as gospel. Whatever she says, he believes we need to do...and we all know, you need to experiement with things to find what works best. (For instance, I don't know anyone who uses every single product in one particular haircare line. You may use Rusk shampoo and Biolage hairspray...just because they sell an entire line, doesn't mean it's going to work well for everyone....[rarely it does]). I was unable to attend the training class she gave due to another committment...and have continuously requested to speak to her. (Why I can't do this on my own, I have no idea??) My reasoning is this: I feel strongly that I am right, and IF I am wrong, I want the educator to tell me WHY. I feel I could ask questions and be better informed, instead of just being "told" this is how to sell it. kwim?? The other "issue" I'm having is this: After the 3rd or 4th tan, he wants us to put them in HS. AFTER that 1st HS treatment, any additional HS treatment the client does, (even if it's BEFORE UV exposure), he wants us to do the 'protect' program! I KNOW that isn't right....why would you use that program if someone was preparing for UV exposure??? I pointed out to the mgr. yesterday that the employee training manual says this: For Prepare program: Step 1: Apply accelerator. (etc...) For Protect program: Step 1: Apply moisturizer . (etc...) Now, why would you do that if you are preparing to tan??? Mgr. said good point and she'd put my request in to the boss (haveta follow the chain of command ya know. ) So...I'm still waiting to speak to the trainer....hopefully soon. I usually open 3 days a week and work by myself, so I will sell the HS how I feel most beneficial while he isn't around. If clients see results, they will believe in it and purchase it again..... Matter of fact, there was a client who started tanning a bit late for her cruise later this week and was complaining she didn't see color. (I thought she was looking great!) I told her to use her HS session and ugrade to higher bed. She bought a sample of a different lotion I wanted her to try too. Well, she did HS and then tanned. She came out when she was finished, looked at me and said, "Wow! Can I see color!" She was sold! So...that to me is proof MY way is working and not the boss's way..... Oh...and another quick "check to be sure I'm right".... On Saturday, one of the younger staff accidentally set the wrong time and a young girl burned. Oddly enuf, her Mom wasn't flipping out and all they wanted was a week of free tanning (because she wouldn't be coming in that week). I was shocked that was all she wanted, and accommodating her isn't a problem. HOWEVER, when the mgr. took this info to the boss, you know what he said? "Ya shoulda put her in the HS." WHAT?!?!?! Oh yeah...radiant heat and steam is just what a burn vicitm needs! Unbelieveable..... I'm beginning to think he really doesn't have a clue?! Anyway....thanks for all your help and listening to my idiotic ramblings .... I'm happy to know there is a place I can ask info and check out my "hunches" I wish there was internet and talk forums back in the days I had my own salon....things would have gone so much easier..... Thanks again everyone.... |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hydration Station? Hello! I was wondering if you are getting a good response from customers to the hydration station. The salon I work for is considering a purchase of one. I think the concept is great and a good service to offer in the salon. Is your machine getting alot of use? |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Hydration Station? Hey Maggie, I sent you an email regarding the Hydration. We are getting a great response. I am in Florida, very dry skin. Pulling the numbers from this month it helped keep our sale up. The beach is two miles away, three other salons with in one mile. Our competition is heavy, the hydration creates more options for uv tanning, spray tanning , and moisturizing your skin after the beach. Very happy hydrating. |

The only problem I see with selling it is this: It has a "protect" program...meaning, prolong the tan without additional UV exposure. While it may offer that, it will not keep tanning the person because of lack of UV exposure...does that make sense? I've heard a couple people ask why you'd do the 'protect' program if you're not getting any tanner....just extending the color you have..... good point. If you are going to be in it for 20minutes, may as well do a UV session. Is there a way you can "rent" one for a season or year to see how it goes for you? If you are the only ones in your area that have one (like we do), the public is curious and anxious to try it. Especially the more "mature" clients who are very concerned with skincare.
