Clearing Tinea Versicolor

well i am using nizoral and it seems to be working quite well apart from it makes my skin quite dry even after moisturising if i was to stop this i was thinking of buying 1 of the following creams to see if it helped with the condition

Daktarin or Daktacort (Clotrimozole)
Canesten (Micanozole)

any idea which 1 of them would be better for clearing it up. Thanks

Re: Clearing Tinea Versicolor

It's all about the CONCENTRATION (%) of the active ingredient. If it has the same active ing. as NIZORAL then get the one that has a higher concentration of it.

MORE IS MORE in this case.

Re: Clearing Tinea Versicolor

Dry skin just comes with "the territory" - Head and Shoulders and a loufa always does the trick for me ... just do yourself a flavour and don't consult a fricken dermaterrorist! hehe
Good luck! Hope this helps! -Belvy

Selsun extra strength with 2.5% Selenium Sulphide. And instead of showering with a loufa (will take longer to clear it up) apply it and leave it overnight like a cream and wash it off in the morning. 2-3 applications and it'll be gone.

Re: Clearing Tinea Versicolor

Din - have you personally tried this? I tried the route of Head and Shoulders, using it as a body wash on my effected areas and as a shampoo and that didn't help. I am now trying Lamisil (based on recommendations from others on this forum) and have been using it religiously for 2 weeks, morning and night, and it's not working either.

Have you tried the Selsun thing? I have TV on my chest really bad (and no, I won't send pics ;)) and really want it to go away!

Thanks for your help!

Nigel - did you ever try H&S Extra Strength first? I feel like I have a case that just won't clear or something

Why are you making this difficult? Just ANY dander shampoo WILL NOT WORK. You have to use a SPECIFIC ingredient.

Coal Tar (denorex and Selson (not the blue)

Or the more recent Nizoral product which works MUCH FASTER and doesn't STINK like the coal tar (sulfur).

Anything else will do a good job at slowing down DANDRUFF and that's about it.

Re: Clearing Tinea Versicolor

The active ingredient that needs to be applied to the area is SELENIUM SULPHIDE. Head and Shoulders doesn't have it so you're using something that does absolutely nothing for TV.

Selsun extra strength with 2.5% Selenium Sulphide works. Not selsun blue, not head and shoulders, not finesse.....SELSUN EXTRA STRENGTH.

The reason Selsun took longer for it to work with you Nigel is cuz you used it as a body wash and it will take about 2-3 weeks.

If you apply it as a cream and leave it on OVERNIGHT, it'll be gone after 2-3 applications. SHowering with it is not long enough on your body to clear the affected area.

BodyGLow.....buy it and stop questioning different applications.

Re: Clearing Tinea Versicolor

the reason i'm questioning different applications is that i've tried a few and none seem to be working, and there are so many other recommendations out there. i have an event coming up and want it gone by then so i don't want to have to keep spinning my wheels

can you buy Selsun and Nizoral at any drug store?
