I laid in a bed about 5 yrs ago and did so for about 1-2 yrs. I got pregnant and had a baby in 2005. In May 2006 I laid in a bed and got this extremely iychy skin with red bumps. I am trying to lay again but am having the same issues as before. It almost looks like heat bumps. BUT IT IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!! I am clawing at my skin for hours. I am fair skinned and am laying for 10 minutes. I have tried different types of lotions and nothing seems to take care of the problem. What do I do? I can lay in the sun and have no problems. I just don't like that, I don't have that much time. Anyone please help. I just forked out a lot of money for me to just lose it all.

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
Are the bumps all over or just where you touch the acrylic?
How long are you tanning per session and what is the max. session time? What lotion are you using? Are you taking any medications? Have you changed detergents? |

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
The bumps are on the top of my thighs, from the knee up, on my knees and on the inside of me knees. On my right leg, they go down a little further than my knee. I am laying 10 minutes in the bed. The max that I can lay is 20 minutes. I am using Jumani lotion, it is a triple accelerator, no bronzers or no tingle in it. I am not taking any meds at all. And no I have used Gain since I was little. So now what? I feel like I am fighting a losing battle. I didn't lay today because I am scared of being uop all night AGAIN!!! That's how bad this **** is on me! Anyway, ANY advice will be taken! Thanks!

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
I would say to try one session without the lotion and see if there is any difference. If it doesn't happen you will know it was that lotion and you can get a different one. If it continues you are probably having a reaction to the UV which could be caused by anything from medication, herbs, food, hormones, and the list goes on and on.
Are you on Birth Control? I have had many clients on birth control have reations to the UV exposure.

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
Not always. I have had many clients in the past have a reaction to UV in centralized areas. I even have a reaction when I start out after being out for a while that is just on the tops of my thighs.

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
You do realize there are many changes up to 18months s/p pregancy. Lots of horomonal changes during and after that can effect the body. Is it possible that you shave your legs with a product such as shaving cream or gel in that particular area? Do you dry shave?
Are using any products with mineral oil or petroleum in the ingred. line? Also what is your tanning regimen. I know you say you go only 10 min. but what is the watt of the bed. Maybe you are overexposing those areas for the time you are tanning? What is your skin type? Are you taking anti-histamines or Antibotics or does your personal body products have an spf or perfume? This can cause irritation on the body if exposed to UV light and the sweating in the tanning bed can irritation to certain body parts that lying directly on the acrylics? How many sessions in a roll are you going before you see this irritation? Or is it immediate? Sometimes we have to remember when you have medical situations and do not expose your skin to UV light in a long period of time, you have to really go slow starting out and you cannot always go back to the regimen you had prior to the medical situation... Your body is telling you something..Really watch your exposure and products/synthetics you might be using on your skin...especially while your tanning.. STAY AWAY from Harsh BAR soaps while tanning also..such as antibacterial bar soaps during tanning-very drying and makes for some itchy and irritated skin... Have you moved locations where your home maybe lacking moisture in the air..causing dry areas? Just a few questions and suggestions to investigate... Sometimes if all questions and suggestions are tried...it is just because your body says NO for tanning at this time and maybe try again later... |

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
OKay, I did forget to mention that last year the same thing heppened but with a different lotion. I thought it was a cheap lotion and because I had just had my 2nd son. Last year at this time I was on the birth control patch and now I am on Mirena, the IUD. ALso, I do not dry shave and have always used the same stuff to shave with. I don't use any roducts with mineral oil, petroleum, petrolatum, etc. in them. I know the products to stay away from when tanning. My tanning regimen....5 yrs ago, the first time I ever laid was 10 minutes, and then gradually built my self up to 20 minutes. Now that is what I did also. My skin type is fair to medium. I don't burn easily in the sun but just akes too long, thats why I don't lay in the sun. Too much prolonged heat. The bumps start appearing immediately. I can literally feel the bumps in the bed while I am laying. It feels like needle pricks, milder though. I am not on any meds whatsoever. Not even aspirin for a headache. I don't want to say no but I don't know what else to do. Also, I don't lay long enough to sweat. THe bed that I am laying in is the 'coolest' that they have. It's called the sissy bed! I also considered going to another salon and seeing what I get from there. Maybe it's something in the beds or the air there. I don't know.

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
Do both the lotions you have used contain Aloe? Although rare, some people are allergic to Aloe Vera. It is not prickly heat, (heat rash) as these are generally not itchy. Do you take herbal supplements?

Re: Itchy Bumpy Skin
I do not take any thing at all and no the lotions do not have aloe in them. I have used products with aloe in them and have never had a breakout. Well who knows. I thought about going to a different tanning bed and see what happens. Last year I laid at this bed and the same thing happened. Maybe it's her cleaner or something.
