Rep Power: 68 | This just in ... This is a pretty powerful article in my estimation, discussing the apparent Vit D deficiency among Americans. The author claims it is of epidemic proportions and the only way to deal with it is through ... yep, UV exposure. Vitamin D is vital to the body's absorption of calcium, which is also vital to other bodily operations which keep us strong and healthy. Hope you can find a good use for the article. -Belvy (Source: MSN Home Page, Health and Fitness) http://health.msn.com/centers/skinca...37710>1=8211

One of the curious things that I have been seeing lately is that because a previous study that was apparently botched because the participants didn't not take their calcium regularly, and so the final report was flawed, the Derms are now claiming that taking Vitamin D does not help prevent breast cancer or anything else...They can't have it both ways... While Cancer is having the first decline in the last 70 years, the Derms maintain that skin cancer is on the rise, especially in teenage girls between 14 & 19, most of which admit they have only been in a tanning be 2 or 3 times in their whole life, and have probably been slathered with sunscreen for most of their outdoor experiences which in my mind makes them more suseptable to skin cancer!

Why is it that the derms CAN make such claims and even though there is PLENTY of research and studies in our favor, we can't use any of it. Why doesn't the industry lobby for this? |

Rep Power: 24 | Re: This just in ... Because the Derms are in charge of the Asylum. They make the rules and have the money to back them up. End of story! Now there are some credible Universities that have released scientific authentically researched studies (not 145 beach goers) which have contradicted what the Derms have been brainwashing people with for years! That, coupled with the fact that they are heavily invested in "Big Pharma" which has also backlashed with a recent "class action Sunscreen lawsuit" We as an industry are unorganized and there is no body that is made up of only salon owners to represent only salon owners interests!

Though Hollick has received some donations from the ITA, doesn't the fact that the dermatology associations receive oodles of $$ from "Big Pharma" (as Sherin says) Johnson & Johnson, Neutragena...etc, doesn't this beg the metaphor of the pot calling the kettle black? |

Rep Power: 19 | Re: This just in ... Well, just wait until they push it to the SUPREME COURT. I can PROMISE that they will LAUGH THESE FOOLS OUT OF THE COURT ROOM FOR WASTING PEOPLES' TIME. They are getting away with MURDER (literally) by talking out their asses. Can't do that under oath. So....Babs (ha ha from the other...nevermind...he he), show us the study that shows the DECREASE in skin cancer from your campaign in preventing it with sun screen. Well, we can't cause we are too busy with our Marketing Scare Tactics and that would kinda defeat the purpose of us.... Ok, so what you are saying is that even after you scream at fools to use sunscreen, skin cancer is still on the rise? It appears this way. We feel that the public is a bunch of brain dead fools that listen to anything scary so why not take advantage of that and make some bank? Point well taken...unfortunately the sun screens that you are pushing on people are clearly not working. Yea, that's people being ignorant and not applying it correctly. Ok, well, what would you say to the FACT that people in the northern hemisphere where there is LESS sun, have MORE skin cancer? Well, once again. It's a way for us to make some bank. I see. Bailiff, please throw this person to the lions. We are done here. |
