Another newb! Yaaaaaaay!

I've got LOTS of questions. I've browsed a bit beforehand to make sure my questions weren't already answered in another thread, so forgive me if I repost questions.

All right, soooo long story short I've never gone tanning. When I was little I'd spend tons of time out in the sun and hardly ever burn, but since then I've gotten pasty and have started to burn. I'm going to Hawai'i in a little over three weeks and have started going in to work on a base tan before I fly out. I've been in twice already (LOVE IT, by the way), just in the conventional bed (Sundash 322 Pro - 120watt) - first time for 10-minutes, second time for 12-minutes. I'm planning on going about every other day until I get a good solid base, but I wanted to see what you guys had in mind. I'm pretty fair with freckles with no skin problems other than KP on my arms.

Another question I have is, how much tanning lotion do you go through per application? I bought some Rich Sexy Tan and was dumbfounded when I found out how much I was paying for it. I'd love not to have to spend that much money on lotion (I don't even buy pants that are than much!) all the time.

Question number three! Like I noted before, I was in the bed for 12-minutes in my last visit, and developed a weird tan line along my spine! I think I layed in the bed funny, haha... How long will it take for that to tan evenly with the rest of my skin?

And question number four: any good, inexpensive moisturizers I should know about? Right now I'm lathering up with some St. Ives intensive care stuff for dry skin, but would like to maintain my tan as best I can without going too crazy. I read on another site that pretty much any lotion that contains A and D vitamins are good for your skin if you want to maintain a tan, and to stay away from products like Vaseline (kind of like you would for a tattoo).

Which leads me to another question! What are you guys using to protect your tattoos (if you have any) from the UVs? Mine are black and gray and shaded, so I'm trying to find something that'll protect the tattoos without the tattoos looking highlighted.

I think I've thrown enough questions at you for now. Thanks!

Re: Another newb! Yaaaaaaay!

every other day is good going up by 2 minutes as long as you arent getting pink. get an after tan extender to maintain your tan (sold in professional salons only) use an spf stick on your tattoo. Weird tan line, could be bad bulb, or not moving enough in bed, a good lotion is well worth the bucks, use sparingly, most people use too much lotion. hope this helps have fun in hawaii!

Re: Another newb! Yaaaaaaay!

Honestly your salon should be able to help you with all these questions and if not I would look for a new salon. :)

I can't believe you went for 10 minutes and didn't burn if you were that pale and are that pale. Did you not get even a little pink/tender?

Another question I have is, how much tanning lotion do you go through per application? I bought some Rich Sexy Tan and was dumbfounded when I found out how much I was paying for it. I'd love not to have to spend that much money on lotion (I don't even buy pants that are than much!) all the time. You use however much lotion it takes to cover your body. If you weigh 250 pounds it will take more than if you weigh 98 pounds. Use what you need to use to cover your body.

Question number three! Like I noted before, I was in the bed for 12-minutes in my last visit, and developed a weird tan line along my spine! I think I layed in the bed funny, haha... How long will it take for that to tan evenly with the rest of my skin? Depends on if you continue to "lay funny."

Can you tell me any product (tanning related or not) that good and inexpensive go in the same sentence? Your salon should have a good moisturizing product specially formulated to help maintain your tan. If they don't, follow Eileens advice and look for another salon.

Which leads me to another question! What are you guys using to protect your tattoos (if you have any) from the UVs? Mine are black and gray and shaded, so I'm trying to find something that'll protect the tattoos without the tattoos looking highlighted. Good luck with that.

I think I've thrown enough questions at you for now. Thanks!

Re: Another newb! Yaaaaaaay!

Thanks for the help! I didn't get pink or tender after 10 or 12 minutes (I think it's partially because of my Native American and Italian heritage, however I'm mostly Swedish which could account for the paleness, lol). I should be visiting the salon tonight; I'll be sure to ask the girls at the salon the questions I asked you. Last time I went in it was super busy and didn't get a chance to ask. Thanks again!

Re: Another newb! Yaaaaaaay!

That bed with the original lamps in new condition should have burned you in 10 minutes. I wouldn't have started you with more than 5 minutes.
