Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

Hello everyone!! I have been tanning for many years now but last week something happened that has never happened before. After tanning, I noticed 3 small-ish white splotches on my chest area. I thought it was a little strange but, figured I might have just been lying the wrong way in the bed so I dismissed it. After tanning again yesterday though, I have started to think otherwise :O .

I saw a post about Tinea Versicolor on this site and read up on the condition...it does sound like what I have but, I have some questions that I hope someone may help me with.

First of all --- I have been deeply tan now for over a month. I am now just tanning for maintenance. Is it feasible that this condition would just "appear" like this so quickly?? The area that now has several white splotches was smooth and brown just over a week ago. Also....several sites say that T.V. causes a "scale" condition to the skin..however, my skin is smooth and does not appear abnormal at all other than the fact that it is white when the surrounding skin is brown.

Help me..is this Tinea???? If so......what is the very best treatment that I can do?? I have read about yeast infection treatments rubbed topically on the skin (miconazole, etc)...also about Selsun Blue used as a soap. How long would I have to continue this regimine to get this condition to go away?

I really don't want to go to the doctor and hear about how awful tanning is for your skin..but, if I really NEED to go I will. I am hoping that you guys can help me out instead!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

yes. Buy some denorex 2.5% coal tar dandruff shampoo (might be a shampoo/conditioner combo). Apply to entire body, wait 5min then wash off in the shower. The more you use it the faster it'll go away.

It's the ONLY product that works. Do NOT buy something other than Denorex with the 2.5% coal tar cause THAT'S the ingredient that "kills" it off.

This condition is like acne. Everyone caries it, just not everyone has a break out.

It CANNOT be caught from someone. It is NOT something that falls out of your hair or can be caught.

Just don't listen to fools that tell you it's contagious of it's from dirty beds or something.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

That's great to hear! I used Denorex this morning and I also used some Miconozale yeast meds last night. I had read info reg Selenium shampoo like Selsun Blue and I was going to go buy some..but, if the Denorex is really what works..I will stick with that!

Thanks for putting my mind at ease regarding how you get the infection. I have always been prone to yeast infections of one sort or the other but had never heard of this. I was wondering if you could get it from the beds not being cleaned well enough.

One more thing...how in the world can you tell if you have treated it enough?? They say that the skin might be this color for several months...how can you tell that the infection is gone???

Keep tanning. When the light patches start tanning, the fungus is gone.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

You'll know. All of a sudden the spots will be all dried out looking like dry patches. Exfoliate it off, and depending on how tan the rest of you is you either be free of any remains or will have to tan the area to catch up.

but as soon as you start tanning again it'll probably act up so keep using that denorex like every couple of days to keep it away.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

Welll..it seems like it may have spread a little bit. I am using Denorex every day in the shower (for past 7 days so far) leaving it on 8-10 minutes and also using miconazole cream at night. I HAVE NOT been changing sheets daily like some have suggested..so, maybe I will do that. I don't want it to spread anymore than it has. It seems the spots are fading but that is probably because I have not tanned in a little over a week...

Am I doing everything necessary? How long should I keep this treatment up?
Also....I read about tetrasil....does anyone know if that is good??

I just want to get rid of this before it continues to spread...! I hate not having my even tan anymore..!

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

I understood you to say that you do not have a rash. The only symptom is the untanned skin. Is this right? Does it look like this?

If so, the over the counter antifungal treatments should kill the fungus pretty quickly. You posted this a week ago. If I had been treating that long, I would suspect it is dead. The white will not go away until you tan it.

If it looks like this it can also be tinea versicolor, but it will take longer to treat and you should not tan until the rash has cleared up completely and the skin has gotten smooth.

Good luck.
