Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

Thanks billable,

Yes...it does look like the first picture..except on a much smaller scale. I have about 4 areas of spot (started with 1!) on my chest area and one small spot on my upper arm. It has not spread anywhere else that I can see. The areas are not raised and look like the skin around it except for the white color. I have been treating for 8 days now with denorex and miconazole but, I read on a couple of other websites that it took 4 weeks or longer to get rid of the infection ! I just bought some anti-fungal spray and more cream so that I could double treat. I just want to make sure it is gone before I stop treatment. I have not tanned since I realized what was going on....is it okay to start tanning again?? Or should I wait longer?? I figured I could keep doing the treatments for another week or two just to be sure....?

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

First off SHUT UP FOR CHRIST SAKES. Jesus. Listen, tanning aggravates the situation as does any type of sweating, heat, humidity. Remove these situations and keep up the treatment with the denorex. You will NEVER get rid of this condition due to you can NEVER get rid of the issues that cause it completely. Just don't be a nasty ******* and always keep the denorex around.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

Thanks for the input Mike.

PJ, if you want to tell oif you still have the fungus on your skin, the yeast colony on your skin will flouresce (glow) yellow under UV light (like from a tanning bed).

About 3/4 of the infections clear up from topical treatments. If it proves more stubborn, you may have to go to the doc and get an oral antifungal. Topicals vary on how fast they work.
All of the above info is readily available on the internet. Google "treating tinea versicolor" to learn more.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

And like Mike said, if you stop treating it periodically, it is likely to return.

OKay..first off...I don't appreciate the nasty reply...AT ALL!! Secondly..I am NOT a *******.. and I don't appreciate being called one! Although I appreciate the response from the polite persons on this site, I do not appreciate yours:angry: . You might not realize it, but, not everyone feels the need to get their point across by being rude. You may or may not know what you are talking about but, being rude is not helpful. There are many other forums out there that I subscribe to and I have never been "spoken" to like you have..obviously I need to stick with those other sites.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

Hey Tanworldorder, you seem to know what you are talking about and I agree with you that tanning probably isn't a good idea if sweating and heat aggravate the yeast. ( I've had TV visible for about 6 years now and the skin color never quite goes back to normal in the effected areas. I use Nizoral to keep it under control. )So I posed a question about evening out skintone after the TV subsides (temporarily of course) and I got this response from another replier that seems to also know what he's talking about:

"...just tan the area with NO TANNING LOTION for a while. Then they should clear up."

Do you think this is bad advice or did i miss a point here?

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

The advice stands on the other thread. Use the Nizoral till it's all gone. Then you can start tanning again just use the Nizoral every night you tan and it should be fine. I've been TV free for over a year when I usually get it every spring-winter.

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

The spots I have on my skin are just little spots here and there and all the pictures I've seen of tinea versicolor seem to be large patches on the skin. Does it normally just start as small spots and then grow into larger patches if left untreated?

Re: Help!! Do I have Tinea Versicolor??????

Hey Engfant, I was wondering if you can help me out since you seem very knowledgable about tv. I've had tinea versicolor for a few months now and never really got it checked out until one day when I saw my mom with a big break out and finally realised that i had the exact same thing. I've used tetrasil, selsun blue, stieprox and a couple of other treatments for tv, bu none seemed to have worked. I am currently using nizoral and found that every time i wash it off and lookin the mirror right away the tv seems as if it is apearing in new areas and some of the spots are drying out. I'm not really sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Do you think that this means that the nizoral shampoo is working? Thanks
