Lumiere Tips

Hello, first off this post is neither in support of Lumiere nor is it in forlorn terms.

I have one of the first Lumiere units and have done quite well with my unit given the circumstances over the past 19 months. Keep in mind that my business is focused around Photo-facials and spray-tanning.

I just want to pass along some ideas for those whom have Lumiere and need to boost their revenue from this device.

1.) For Results the unit needs to be right at the face. We even go as far as having the unit touch the customer’s nose, or at the most 1” away.

We did some preliminary tests with an experimental 633 light meter. The meter needs calibration (at any distance closer than 10” it maxed out the meter).

But… one thing that could be determined was that the light intensity decreased by 100% every 3” THAT IS A SERIOUS DIFFERNECE.

I have had clients that would position the device up to 8” away from their face.

2.) S.A.D. (Seasonal Affect Disorder) AKA Depression caused by lack of light. We all know that tanning beds help with this, but what Doctor is going to send you SAD patients (Not Many).

However… If they know you have a light source such as this (safe for the eyes, no UV), you can work out a partnership with many Psychologists and Family Doctors.

It is just one more way to get your ROI with this type of device. In this case the softer, healthier skin is a bonus for the customer.

We price it at $20.00 for a 10 min. session, obviously no product; just the light.

Not a big seller in the Spring/Summer months, but a potential mini-gold mine in the Fall/Winter.

I know this is not Cash falling from the sky, but I hope it helps you a bit.

FYI, This info is not from RAI nor is it Commissioned by RAI.

I do not work for RAI, nor will I fight their battles, so don’t start in on me.

These are just some tips I am passing along.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Lumiere Tips

Hi Tom! Good to see you on the board again! In your professional opinion, do you think Lumiere/RAI has the ability to stay in business for the next two to three years; or could they be gone overnight leaving those of us with the machines hanging in the breeze without the topicals necessary to provide the service? I had heard that the fellas had bagged the Planet Beach group, but have yet to see or hear of any new units in my market. This is just TanTalker to TanTalker here, in the spirit of the site. What do you think? Thanks as always. Respect.

Re: Lumiere Tips

Belvy, You know I can not make a comment such as that; either way.

I will say I have been researching other topicals, not because I am worried about RAI's health, but because I want to know I have the best product avalible in the market place.

They did bag PB and it will be interesting to see if RAI's approch or PB's approch is better at selling these services in a tanning salon setting.

The device works, I can make money with RAI's topicals, stand alone, or with another brand of topicals.

BTW, our packages now range from $399.95 to $799.95 (45 day package with 18 sessions)

Hi Tom, Are you saying that we can do what ever we want with Lumiere? I thought the contract stated we could only sell under their terms which are stated very clearly.

Re: Lumiere Tips

They screwed you, and you are worried about their contract?

I am doing what actually makes me money.

Re: Lumiere Tips

Thanks for the confirmation of getting screwed. I guess that was a pretty dumb question. So, You're saying that we could just use good skin care products such as Bio Elements and get the same results. Are you doing a hands on photo facial or soaly the self service thing?

Re: Lumiere Tips

Self service, but we do spend a bit of time with each customer when they come in (some more than others). When the light is on however, we are not in the room.

As far as topicals; it is something that I am playing around with on a few close friends (not customers). Simply research at this point.

Lumiere's topicals are great no doubt, I am just checking other options. We have found some eye serums that seem to be accelerated by the light.

Re: Lumiere Tips

Hey Tom,

I just talked to Bio Elements and they said something about using the red light on dry skin because products might reflect some of the light. Is that true?

Re: Lumiere Tips

I ask of you; If that were the case, why would you sell tanning lotion to tanners? Beacuse 40-60% of light is reflected by DRY skin.

Quite frankly I do not like Bio Elements that much, and since you mentioned that they said somethink like that. One would have to belive that they are yet another company who hire based upon the cheapest labor they can find. I would be shocked to find out that one of thier formulators or research dept. would make a statement as incorrect as that.

keep in mind however, there is popular thought that some compounds may inhibit the effectiveness of red-light therapy.

Sorry for not spell checking, I am in a rush.

Good food for thought, but incorrect.

Re: Lumiere Tips

Oh yea, I am still testing with my new solarmeter 633.

Best distance to face is 1 to 1.5 in.
