While we are both doing well as are a few others, my point was that I believe RAI has the resources now to fill some of thier early promises. I do not need thier support to carry me, but if they came through with some "end-user" marketing, my sales would increase, as would yours; thus they sell more product. It's win-win "Adapt, Improvise, Overcome." My father (the ex-jar head) used to tell me this and it sunk in at an early age. He never let me get defeated; there is always another way. One of the best sayings ever IMO ;) TJ has a point, Ric has a point. My point is: Integrity is built on actions not words. Tom

****, I can't get away! But your questions are good ones, so here goes: - Unlimited use of Luminiere (1st month), then 1 or 2 per month after 1st? Not unlimited. Customers get an intensive (12 sessions) regime that first month only. -How much are additional Luminiere treatments? VIP's get twice a month maintenance treatments for a year at no charge. If they want to do a second (or third) intensive regime, they pay an prorated price for the two sessions they would have been entitled to for that month. - Unlimited use of best tanning equipment. (What are your top tanning beds?) Unlimited use of UV tanning beds/verticals OR once a week Mystic tan. We have three upgrade tanning levels. - How many spray tans , massage units, or hydration stations per month? How much for additional usage? Once a week Mystic (if that's their choice over UV tanning), once a week Relaxation Room, once a week Hydration Station. If they want additional sessions, they pay normal member rates. - Do you carry the original Luminiere lotion/products, and how do they fit into your $79.00 fee. Are some included, or is it extra? Yes, we carry the full line. VIP's get that first 30 day home kit at no charge. After that they can buy their 90 day kits for Maintenance at a 15% discount price. - Any non-tanning service is harder to sell, thinking outside the box (like you are doing) is required. I'm making an intentional attempt to redefine ourselves and create a new niche by calling ourselves a 'Sun Spa' as a way of differentiating ourselves from traditional tanning salons. We offer all the services you'd expect from a tanning salon...and now a few additional spa type services that they don't. The objective is to give non-tanners another reason to give us a try, much as the Mystic started to create. Go to www.planetbeach.com and look at their marketing trademark term, 'Contempo Spa' It seems they have the exact same idea as me, as they feature a Lumiere/Hydration Station/Aqua Massage trio as their spa offerings in addition to their base tanning. Rep Power: 24 | Re: Lumiere (Anyone making money?) WOW! Great post here. Ric, I want you to know that I appreciate everything you've posted here and believe me, I know that I'm beating a dead horse. I'm not just posting for me though. I personally know some of the salon owners that were devistated over this purchase and are very bitter toward RAI. What burns me is that Yesterday I opened the latest issue of one of the new skin care magazine that my wife gets that only goes to salon owners and the first thing that caught my attention was a FULL PAGE ad by RAI for Lumiere. Another attempt to sell more machines. Has anyone seen an ad in a main stream magazine yet. If you have, please let me know. I'd like to see it. They may be out there and I just haven't found them yet. If they are, RAI should be making us aware of their attempts to help us, wouldn't you think? I'm going to sit down and see if there isn't some kind of membership I can put together for My salon that includes lumiere. Maybe you guys are right. One thing is for sure, the tanning business is going through some really tuff times and only change of some kind will save us. Whoever is monitoring this thread from RAI, please know that taking me off of the salon locator on their web site was just one more reason for me to keep posting here. I can't believe you've taken away one of the few things you did to support my purcase of a lumiere machine. I hope you change your mind and go the Nashville Tom. I curious as to how the turn out will be this year. Last edited by TJ; 10-03-2006 at 07:58 PM. |

But while we're waiting to see if RAI can do better with this new PR firm, we might as well put our heads together and see if we can up with some solutions out here in the field. I'll be talking with both RAI and Alex, their new PR guy in a few weeks and I'll let you know if anything new comes of it. If there's anything else I can give you a hand with, let me know. I know Tom will have some good insight also. Ric |

Second, I do not remember how to give proper credit so that I am not violating copyrights. But... in a NUT shell, it is about a skin care company that dumped it's PR firm after many months of a high retainer and "small potatos" results. The started doing Pay-Per-Clip (not Pay-Per-Click), where you only pay once they get the story live. ie. pay for results not just talk. With as little as $10K you can get a story in leading magazines like Cosmo, Elle, ECT. Inc. Magazine is awesome for small business owners, I read it cover to cover every month. Best $15 bucks a year I spend. Maybe I should get the boys a subscription. -Tom
