I have white Spots. Do I have Tinea Versicolor?

For several years now I've been getting these pure white small round freckles. That's what I like to call them anyway. They've been increasing in amount more and more each year. Most of them are on my legs. The rest on my arms, chest, upper back and face. But I'm confused. What I've read about Tinea Versicolor is that it's extremely rare to show up on the face. Is that true? I know my condition isn't Vertigo because my spots are small white spots not large wide mis-shapen ones. And they're not pityriasis alba either because they're smooth as the rest of my skin not rashy. So what would you say my body skin condition would be, tinea versicolor or 2 separate conditions? They both get worse in the summertime. And also, my feet & calves get really dry from not put lotion every day and and also having the space heater right at them when I'm at the computer for hours every day, I itch them and Itch them and the white spots just multiply and scatter everywhere on my calves. Ewe. It upsets me. I just gob a bunch of lotion on my legs secretly fantasizing that they will dissapear. Any advice from any of you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my post.

I wanted to add that on my face the white spots have changed form since they started. These used to look just like the other white spots on my legs and other areas. And these spots on my face appeared on my face the same time they appeared on the rest of my body 3 years ago. These white spots have gotten a little bigger and misshapen but havn't gotten huge (like vertigo) or rashy (like pityriasis alba). I just don't get it. It makes no sense to me. Please help me.

Interesting questions. What did your doctor tell you they were?

Does tanning fit into this equation anywhere?

Hi clubtan1,
My Dr told me to stay out of the sun and wear spf 30 and he just said they were age spots. Jeese! Thank you for your response

Hi Neon Beach,
Tanning does increase the amounts of my white spots especially on my calves and upper arms and the white spots on my face do get bigger too. Thanks for your cute reply.

Hmmmmmmm? I personally don't think it's tinea. But, give those areas some "treatments" with a really potent medicated dandruff shampoo, give it some time, and see what happens. Something like Selsn Blue, or ask your local tanning salon for a sunspot treatment like Arrest.

(I am not a Doctor, I just play one on tanTALK)

Neon Beach,
Hi. I'll try the Selson Blue and will check with my local tanning salon ladies too. Thanks for your advice. I am starting to really thing my face condition is different from the rest though too.

I did forget to mention earlier that that I have brown blotches (like lots of freckles) over the t-zone on my face too from too much sun, I think. This summer I started using a bottle of retinol on those spots to lighten them and it makes my white marks a little less noticeable now. I finished the bottle a few months ago. I'm much less paranoid now.

To stop the itching, I would recommend getting the new Cortaid spray. It helped control the itching I had when I broke out with eczema this past summer. If you tan, you should stop for a while. Try the Selsen Blue and definetly ask for Arrest at your local tanning salon.

Re: Do you think I have Tinea Versicolor?

I don't think they are age spots but until we get some pics, really can't say. Tinea comes in different varieties but usually doesn't show up on face and legs. Behind the knee is possible. But Tinea being a fungi, fungi comes in a ton of slight variations all treatable very easly.

Anyone else get the feeling that Skin Doctors are doing nothing but selling snake oil? SPF? What the **** is that going to do besides make your skin feel/look like CRAP???

Do as NEON suggested above. Ask your dr. what the heck age spots means, in medical terms. Does your doctor wear any kind of dead animal head dress, dance around and blow magical powder in your face?

It does not sound like Tinea AT ALL. But more like yes, age spots.

Do what your doctor tells you, he knows best because he has seen it and examined you.
