outdoor tanning newb- need info plz!!

Hi. I have never posted anything at this site before. This looks like a great site though. Anyways, I am a newbie to tanning and need some help on tanning outdoors since I have never done it before. I have tanned indoors before though. What I would like to know is how long I should start out tanning and how should I move up in session time limits since I havn't tanned in awhile and my skin has gone back to its pale white color. Should I use the same time limits like I did when I used tanning beds? Some info about my skin type-It took awhile for me to build up a tan because I have pretty sensitive skin that burns pretty easily. Another question I had is on outdoor tanning lotions. Do I really need one? If so, is a more inexspensive tanning lotion okay to use-like one from grocery outlet my mom has:) or is it one of those "you get what you pay for" kind of things? Thank you very much to anyone who helps me out.

I would really love to help you. Yes, you almost always get what you pay for. And when you tan outdoors, you very often get more than you're paying for, and then you get to keep paying for sometimes a couple of weeks. Do yourself a favor and spend your money wisely at a professional indoor tanning salon and get more than you're paying for. Good luck.

A professional tanning salon will be your best bet. The salon prodfessionals can help guide you in the right direction to achieve your desired tan. You will be able to track your tan without overexposure (which you will probably have tanning outside). If you buy a lotion from a grocery store you are getting what you pay for. Tanning salons carry professional products designed specifally for indoor tanning. Stop by your local tanning salon and have them help you.

What they said ^^! If you do decide to tan outdoors, you should always use a broad spectrum sunscreen because, unlike tanning beds, the intensity of UVA & UVB can not be determined or regulated. I suggest starting with a higher SPF and then as your tan develops you can decrease the SPF factor slowly. And don't stay out all day thinking you are protected..you could end up with a horrible burn. Go slow and you will develop a good base tan.
