my skin is somehwat on the oily side to beign with, so when i tan it sometimes dries it up and than produces more oil to make up for it. my question is though: if i wanted to do a clay mask should i do it before or after i go in a bed?

I would say after, that way you are cleaning up and excess oil and debris from your skin. I do not see the point in using one prior to tanning seeing you are going to be putting lotions on, getting hot and possibly perspiring. Be sure to be cleaning your face morning and evening to get rid of the excess oil. Also if you do not mind carrying around "blotting sheets", these help to rid your skin of oil throughout the day, when you cannot get to a sink to wash your face.

What brand of clay mask(s) would you recommend?

Always better to tan clean skin. If you use a facial step system like John Abate has (wash, toner, moisturiser) basically what you are doing is, WASHING AWAY EXCESS OIL with the wash, BALANCING your face's PH and leftover dirt/oil/makup etc with the toner, then you top it off with a clean, thin layer of moisturiser. Now your face is ready to go!

Your face works better if you give it a good wash no more than twice (morning/night) and just keep up with it during the day with simple rinseing and blotting.

That is what I have face wipes in the rooms for...to allow customers to rid their skin of dirt and oil before applying tanning lotions and tanning. I do not see the point of a skin care regimen right before tanning. I recommend morning and night of washing and toning, moisturizing, etc. When you are wanting to use a speciality product like a mask I would only recommend once a day and only like 2-3 times a week depending on the severity of your oil production.

Yeah, the drier you make your face the more oil it'll produce to keep up. If you balance the skin's pH and replace the oil with a clean, balanced product your skin won't be so nuts. Usually people just throw some soap bar all over their face which is WORSE than using nothing at all...

...actually you'd be SURPRISED how much more irritated your face gets just by drying it too hard with a towell over just blotting it.

When do you usually take care of your skin care regimen? At night, or first thing in the morning? If you are suffering from blemishes it is good to do a mask once a week. My dermatologist suggested I use an anti-inflammatory mask right before bed. That way the skin heals naturally. I'm not sure you would want to use one before tanning. It seems like it would really dry out your skin. The one I have is awesome. It's the DDF Sulfer Therepudic mask. You can find it at, http://ddf.00freehost.com.
