Can someone tell me why a lady would be tanning, started out very slow (6-8 mins) did not even turn red, but each time she tans she gets a raised rash, almost like hives, that has a "prickly" almost painful, itchy feeling to the skin, only on her chest and stomach. She has tried all different kinds of lotion, including the new DS Sheer Wisdom with the same reaction from every lotion. The other day she covered her chest area with a damp towel for the majority of her tanning session, only allowed chest to be exposed for 2 minutes and the reaction still occurred. Any ideas on what this could be? The stand up bed has bronzing bulbs in it and it happened in that bed as well as in the lay-downs. HELP!

It sounds like she is having a reaction to uv rays. May be she needs to give her skin a rest fromthe rays for a while. Just an idea.

I agree. It may also be a heat rash. And watch the lotion she is using, she may have to use a "base builder"/beginner lotion if she thinks she has sensitive skin.

Heat Rash. I had a problem with it MYSELF recently. Ask her what she is eating. it sounds funny, BUT I changed my diet a few weeks back because I was trying to shed some weight... I was eating a lot of BROCCOLI, CELERY and CARROTS & other PHOTOSENSITIZING FOODS. When I realized what the cause may be I talked to my cousin about it and she said her friend (who is a vegetarian) cannot tan either because she always gets this itchy sensitive rash. Well I went straight to the list of "Photosensitizing Foods & Drugs" and a lot of the things I had been munchin on lately were on the top of that list. Celery is a MAJOR factor, And I was eating it all day long for weeks. With peanut butter or cream cheese.

So I stopped the diet for a little while to see if I cant get my chemistry right again... because every single time i tanned I was getting this rash. And i HAVE A DARK TAN. it wasnt making sense. Well I didnt tan for about a week. Went back to my normal food regimen... and I havent gotten the rash SINCE.
