Hey I'm new! I'm totally miserable though! I have olive skin, and I've started going to the tanning bed recently. I've been probably 10 times. The place I go to has brand new bulbs, so I'm only at 10 minutes. I was using something called Worship, but after about 6 visits I started getting really itchy all over. I'm not burned, but it's just feels like needles are going into my skin! I've changed my body wash, tanning lotion, detergent. Everything! Am I just allergic to the tanning bed? Is there a such thing? What do I do? I'm getting darker, but I can't deal with the itching!

Please Help!

This can scientifically b broken down. I go tanning and i get itchy.... this is what you have to remember.... Do u remember hearing about how tanning can cause your skin to wrinkle and it is unhealthy. Well chemically your body is changing under those ultraviolet lights. Slowly ur DNA is being changed. I majored in biology last year and i asked my professor about this. gradually ur dna codes change. Your body is just reacting to the light waves. Tanning isnt a bad thing.... its just if you do it all the time for years on out. Everything is fine. Your body is just gettin used to it.

I have the exact same problem. I have olive skin, I drink tons of water and I've been tanning for a long time. All the sudden about 6 months ago I noticed that every time I tan, the next day or two I am itchy all over. I don't tan that much (about once every two months for 12 minutes), but every time I have this problem. Why now and not before?

Re: Itching but no burning?

im male and i feeeeeeeelllll you guys on the itching feels like needles are going through my back and i cant reach it for about 2-3 days after i just got over it .....its horrible and anyone who went throgh it should get a badge of honor (shivers)

I dont even know if i am going to go tan again, i think i was just getting to much UV light in too short of time and last time i went before the itching i double my time , it was a high pressure bed with a max time of 10 mins i went 4 then 6 mins the next day, i remember i could feel my skin start to get kinda :\ when i was in there .........

Good luck people with that ....

Re: Itching but no burning?

Your absolutly tanning too fast!! The common misconception is that if you are a level 2 it won't matter how long and how fast you expose your skin!! Truth is that each time you expose your skin to UV light you are shocking your skin! Give your skin time to adjust to the UV light if your salon has the standard tanning beds as well as the high pressure opt for the standard if your just starting out move your way up to the high pressure beds after your base tan is satisfactory and even then take it slow! No matter what skin type you are your skin still has to have time to adjust. Your basically training your skin to accept something new.
Also take a water bottle with you spray it down with the water and wipe with a clean towel if your allergic to the sanitizer this will nuteralize the solution .
If you use a tanning lotion when starting out use the lowest accel. possible in fact don't use anything at all for the first 10 sessions accel. and other lotions tend to aggrivate the itch and most certainly DO NOT START WITH A TINGLE!!! A tingle lotion is for tanners who have hit their tanning platuea and need a little more.
Hope this helps

Re: Itching but no burning?

This happened to me the first time I went tanning. It was the worst itching EVER. Went to the Dr. and was told I was allergic to the sun (sun poisoning). He gave me cream, which by the way worked miracles, and told me I could never tan. Well, four years later, I must have grown out of it. I have not had it since. It may be different for you, but I was not allergic to the lotions or the cleaner.

Re: Itching but no burning?

oh **** yea its ofr sure the worst itching ever ........i almost went to the dr ifit lasted beyond 2 days, i jus stayed long nights slept in real long and ddint move around much and put ICE on my back, but i think allergic to the sun is a over exxaggeration its technically impossible, I just got to much UV light in too short of time, everyday for likke 3-4 dys not even 24 hours apart eeek, but yea learned my lesson im fine now
