Re: Itching..oy vey!

Hey! I'm new and my main reason for joining this forum is so I could see this thread! I am experiencing the horrible prickly itch and it is driving me insane. I just joined a salon and was trying to rely on the advice of the people working there to not get burned. They convinced me to start out in a "level 4" bed which is a 30 min bed with only face lamps. It only tans from above so I spend 15 on my front and 15 on my back. I've been using Australian Gold Idol, b/c I am afraid of the tingly stuff.

Basically I went last Sun for 30 mins, and got the itch shortly after. I tanned again (level 4) on Tues, and got the itch shortly after. I tanned today (level 4) and once again am itchy like a crazy person. Mind you I am NOT burned.

Please help me! I'm headed out to get benadryl right now, but any other advice?

Re: Itching..oy vey!

HEY THERE!
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! I HAVE BATTLED THIS FOR YEARS HAVING MY OWN TANNING BED AT HOME. WHATEVER YOU DO DONT TAKE A HOT SHOWER/BATH TO TRY AND RELEIVE IT! IT WILL ONLY MAKE IT WORSE! THE ONLY ADVICE I HAVE TO GIVE YOU IS YES TRY NOT TO GET BURNT THAT MAKES THE ITCH WORSE AND MORE LIKE SPREADING IT TOO. TRY TO TAKE SOME BENEDRYL PILLS AND ALSO TRY THE BENEDRYL GEL TO PUT ON WHEN YOU START ITCHING. THE GEL WILL HELP THE ITCHING. I FEEL THAT ONCE I START TO GET A BASE TAN THE ITCHING/BUMPS EVENTUALLY STARTS TO GO AWAY. IVE ALSO LEARNED THAT YOUR SKIN JUST ISNT READY FOR THAT MUCH HEAT YET AND YOU HAVE TO GO A LIMITED TIME AT FIRST TO GET THAT BASE TAN AFTER THAT IT SHOULD GO AWAY. I HOPE FOR YOU BECAUSE I KNOW PERSONALLY HOW EMBARRABLE IT IS! HANG IN THERE JUST DONT GO FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME IN THE TANNING BED AT FIRST YOUR SKIN HAS TO GET USED TO IT. I CANT USE A TANNING LOTION THAT HAS TINGLE, HOT OR COOLING IN IT....MAKES IT 10 TIMES WORSE! GOOD LUCK! HOPE I HELPED.

Re: Itching..oy vey!

I am the starter of this thread, this happened to me a few months ago as when i posted this BUUUUT ohhhhhhhh man i dread even thinking about it, I seriously overdosed on benedryl to make myself drowsy and sleepy and had ice packs on my back then i was ok :P , HOT shower made it 10 times worse foir a few mintures i thought it made it better but no no, i use alhoe lotion didnt seem to do much, but after that my skiin never did it again except on my side once, just a little bit for a day, i dont burn but man i guess some peoples skin just dont do well with the whole heat thingy, you might also get those little red dots, they call that like heat retention or something they went away in one day for me, but it was awwwwwful, i was like a dog rolling it only lasted 2 days for me, by far the worst experience of my life. My mom thought i was crazy oh man horrible experince tried every anti itch crap the drug store offers, a creme called clisythemtail or something like that makes it go away, it like disables your nerves on your back, for a little while i didnt like that so I never used that again, dont use a heat pad that makes it worse and I know you have to scratch it but dont over do it, it will make it soooo much worse. I use a lotion now in the tanning bed and a moisturerizer after wards. But anyone who gets this can get through anything, well you know what I mean its sooooo bad , i wish to never get that again.

Re: Itching..oy vey!

I know it's been a while since this has been posted on. Last 2 or three days I've been reading alot of the posts on the forums.

I have the same problem. I'd make a new one, but it takes up space, and people may refer me to this one, which I've read

I've been tanning since 2004 or 2003 and I recently stoped last winter. I Started again at 15 mintues, because I used to go 25. I'm wondering if I should cut my time down to 10? I used to burn, but lately, I havn't. A few hours after tanning I'll get an irritation, that feels like a burn, maybe worse because it kept me up for hours a few nights ago. The itch does go away for about 6 hours, comes back for a few and than goes away. I tan every second day, sometimes less depending if I have to cancel it or not. I take luke warm showers and use a lotion I've used for years. I'm not red or anything, nor does it looks like there any irritation. The only time is when I scratch to much.
