I've been tanning for about 3 weeks. I'm a red head freckle face blue eyed girl.
Burn easy, tan not so easy, that whole scenerio. I started out with 3 mintues and am now up to 12 mins in a L1 and 8 mins in a L2. I go 5-6 days a week, to try to build my base tan. Is this too much? |

My suggeston is always every other day. My daughter has the same complexion as you and eventually gets good color but, you are right, it takes awhile. Are you using a good lotion to keep your skin moisturized? Well moisturized skin tans best. Not sure what these beds are but my daughter can now go full time in our 160 watt VHR beds but can never go full time in our base level 100 watt beds. She can't tan more than a couple of days a week or she burns also.

You need to read the ingred. list in your moisturizer (ANGEL is Great so is synergy swanky girl collection Cats pajamas.) and body wash. Some products can strip your tan & make it hard for a person to keep their tan. You should use a sugar scrub, JA has a great one. Never use a 100w 20 min. bed they are not for you. try to use a unit with 3% or less UVB and use JA babie to tan then after a couple weeks try Matahari with stim. it has a light tingle some people dont notice it at all. Try a sample and if your O.K. then I suggest Dark sexy legs it is Fantastic! use it with your all over lotion, go for a light tingle. I have 3 daughters and myself who were born with pale white freckled skin. I had nothing but burn until 3 years ago when I educated myself through smart tan & books and opened a salon. If you have questions email me. Good luck

You've been tanning for 3 weeks. How many sessions and what exposure times have you reached. (I have been tanning for threee weeks and have done 3 sessions, why do I not have any colour?)

Thanks!!!
I've been using a cheaper lotion with cooling bronzer from Sally's Beauty supply for about $10. I just purchased some Sunhemp with bronzer by California Tan online. I started at 3 minutes a day in a level 1 bed, and now I've been doing 12 minutes 5-6 times a week. I've noticed some color and thought it was just from the bronzers, but my back is getting some color too, very slowly of course, where I haven't used lotion on parts of my back I cannot reach. What ingredients should I shy away from in lotions and washes so that I don't strip my tan? My salon only carries California Tan products. I was thinking about X speed for building my base, and total immersion for after bed moisturizing. The level one bed, I beleive has only UVB burning not tanning ?, and the level 4 has only UVA (tanning not burning?) unless I've got it confused. The levels 2 and 3 are a mixture of the two and I was told to start out at level one and slowly go to the level 4 because it is more intense. One of the girls suggested I do a level 2 at 10 minutes when I was doing a level one at 10 minutes and I got pretty burned for about 3 days. The other girls said do level 2 a bit less. So I'm doing level one 4-5 days at 12 minutes and a level 2 once a week at 8 minutes. Did that make sense? Thanks for all your advice! |

I would use the best bed with the lower UVB, but not the UVA only!!! uva is the bronzing ray but, UVB is not just the burner it also helps produce melonin and UVB is the ray That is the only natural source of vitamin D. The most important thing, you should NEVER BURN!!! if you are even slightly pink wait until it has passed and then tan. Cal tan has a great shower gel from what I am told and what is in the product does not strip your tan. I have not used it because I am allergic to almost everything so I stick with Neutrogena Rainbath liquid. JA sugarscrub is a MUST in my book. Try a back applicator for your cant reach spots, lotion is very important when you are tanning and not JUST for color. Do you have Matahari? if so try seduction and if its not to hot then you can gradually work your way up. good things come to those who wait. We have to be patient with results due to our skin tone. You will get there just dont rush it and don't be disappointed if your not as dark as your friend or neighbor, everyone has their own unique combination, Be happy with a slower and smarter tan.

thanks for all the help!!! Where can I buy JA sugarscrub? Is it in stores or just at salons? I didn't know I was tanning too much. They never told me at the salon not to tan everyday.
Thanks for all the honest answers! It's been a huge help. |
