Re: accutane

Can't post a url for you to follow. Wouldn't do you any good. The half life info came from a premium site.

you might be able to get that much from the free version though if you want to register.

www.epocrates.com

(I know you weren't talking to me, but thought you might be interested. Check it out. Has info on all prescription meds.)

Re: accutane

Yes I did try tanning before the accutane and tanning did not help at all. So I know 1st hand what it is like to have cystic acne and I was willing to take my chances with the accutane!

Re: accutane

Someone close to me was on Accutane for his acne, and the stuff was like magic he has not had acne since and it cleared up all his scarring. His face looks amazing! Unfortunately, the side effects were so bad. Please be careful when using this product!!

Re: accutane

I just found this forum searching for when I can start tanning after acutane. I see that it's a really old forum, but I just gotta say that my dermatologist put me on acutane 9 months ago and I've been for for a month. I read all of the warnings of side affects (it probably would have been easier for them to say what WASN'T a side affect), took all of the precautions and tried it anyway. We started on low doses and gradually increased them each month until I was taking 80 mg a day. I had been dealing with acne for 25 years, regardless of what I ate, the type of makeup I used, etc., I always had severe break outs. It's very humiliating when I'm working with my customers in a professional setting and knowing they have to try and look past my acne. This product was the absolute best thing I have ever taken. It has healed my scars, softened my skin, increased my confidence and changes the way I approach people.

I did experience a few of the side affects, mainly dry skin, which I found a fabulous moisturizer to eliminate; dry eyes, which were relieved by drops or ointment; bloody noses, which were also relieved by using saline spray or vaseline. I had minimal hair loss, which didn't bother me since I have very long thick hair anyway. Of course, some people will experience different side affects, and are of course, entitled to their opinions on anything. I just want to say that if you read on the medication thoroughly, the majority of the side affects issued are POSSIBLE side affects, many of which have NEVER been documented as caused by acutane. Many of these warnings and regulations were issued because of a member of the Government's son who had committed suicide after being prescribed the medication. The young man was also taking an anti-depressant, which he did not share with his dermatologist when prescribed the acutane.

There are side affects to all drugs, and everyone should take what they feel is right for them and discuss every concern with their physician. The medication is not crap and it is not dangerous for everyone. I just find it very amusing that someone would recommend that a person try tanning as a way to heal their acne issue knowing the risks involved with tanning (skin cancer, burning, scarring, etc.). Not everything works the same for every person.

Re: accutane

Do NOT tan while on Accutane. You need to follow the directions in the insert for this drug. Your skin will be very sensitive. It is a nasty drug, many many side effects, not just photosensitivity.

And then when you burn, (which you will) everyone will blame the tanning salon, when really it's you not following the directions.
