I know there are some lotion to put on our face to go to tan. However, a lot of customers ask me if they can use the lotion (not the one for face) to put on their face. If yes, I think we shouldn't use the tingle kind for the face, right?

You should not use a tingle lotion on your face. The skin on the face is more finely textured with a vast supply of tiny capillaries. Since tingle lotions stimulate the blood flow, these tiny blood vessels can expand so quickly that they break causing permanent a red mark on face. Most other lotions can be used on the face. The only time I would not advise a lotion on the face is if someone has a acne breakout problem. The lotion could cause more problems. There are lotions designed specifically for faces that help replenish the special facial skin with vitamins, and anti-aging and firming ingredients. While taking special care of the face, you might want to also consider using the same caution with the upper chest & neck. These areas have the same type of skin and show aging and dryness quicker than the rest of the body.

This doesnt really answer your question but I just thought it was a funny story and would share it. I have one client that uses some lotion on her face... im not sure of the brand but when she comes out of the room her face is purple. The first time I saw her it scared the crap out of me but she said it was normal and the purple would go away. I dont think that brand should be used on her face so I mentioned it to her but she said theres nothing on the bottle that says not to use it on her face.

I really think that tanning lotion should be use on our body only because our face skin is more sensitive and different from our body. That's why there are face lotion and body lotion out there (I mean not tanning lotion). However, how likely is a customer buy a bottle of tanning lotion and another bottle for her/his face? Not many, right?

Actually we sell quite a few specialty lotions for the face. Certainly not all tanners see the benefit but as we educate them more and let them try samples, we convince more of them to take care of their faces.

Most of my clients ask the same question, I totally agree with pantannails. But we do have our die hard daily tanners that insist on using "tingle" on their faces. And are passing it down to their daughters. Lately, I have had to educate my first time tanners (who are unfamiliar)about tingle lotions. All they see is someone coming out of our equipment so red and it scares them.
I have several lotions for face only, and sales are picking up with them. I personally like CT Uluminate. |

UPSell your clients. You already know they want a lotion for their face, so tell them about the facial lotions designed specifically for the face. I use X appeal from Cal tan and I am prone to acne break out. However I even use it as a daily moisturizer. Fiji Sunswept is also a great facial tanning lotion. We cannot keep these 2 on the shelves. Dont lose the opportunity to turn your clients on to healthy skin care, and it also gives you the chance to educate your clients on why the facial lotion is better than a regular tanning lotion.
