I have had the occasional tingle lotion user who reacts to niacin, but what's in the cooling lotions that may cause hives, red bumps? In the past 2 weeks, 3 different clients have reacted to either Emerald Bay's Kamikazi Kooler or Cal Tan's RumOnTheRocks, and I'm worried we may have more when the spring flood of new tanners walk in. I have always used the patch test for new tingle users. Seems like that may have to be a new protocol for new cooler lotion users.

The client who reacted to RumOnTheRocks was back and I gave her a packet of BeachBumRum to patch test. Result yesterday, no reaction. She will use the whole BBR packet during her next tan. I'm testing the theory that it's the cooling agent that was added to BBR to make RumOnTheRocks.

I've never heard of this happening. Double check the PH of your bed cleaning solution . It may be too strong. I think it is a coincidence that they were using a cooling lotion.

I use the premeasured CalTan acrylic cleaner system. Hard to get the wrong ph or strength. The reaction was on parts of her body that did not touch the acrylics. She would not do the patch test using the RumOnTheRocks sample because of the previous experience. But, she used the whole packet of BBR and had no reaction. Does anyone know what the cooling agent is in RumontheRocks? The CalTan handbook only lists what it isn't.
