Tanner has had alopecia when she was younger, but no signs now. In two areas, one on each arm, tanning does not take place, leaving 2-3 half-inch spots that are off-white. Could her history of alopecia be responsible? It does not look like Tinea versicolor, white spots caused by fungus from the hair which are usually much smaller spots of untanned skin.

How old is she? and isn't alopecia a loss of hair? Confused. Help us out need more info.

She's nineteen and no longer has alopecia, but she had it when she was younger. Yes, alopecia causes spotty loss of hair. Her mother said that the current spots on her arm look like alopecia. Would a good bronzer work, or a good self tanner cover up the spots. This is my first run in with this type of skin condition and not sure what to recommend.

first of all "alopecia areota" Has nothing to do with tanning only to do with hair!! have her try using head and shoulders or other dandruff shampoos as a Body wash! This helps get rid of White spots FAST!

What are white spots.. every lady in my salon ( workers) have them including myself. Little white spots...

Little white spots can be caused by 1) pressure points caused by not moving in the bed 2) former injury to the skin or most common 3) tinea versicolor a harmless little fungus that drops from our head hair and lands on skin and prevents tanning. It can be eliminated in two weeks by using a good dandruff shampoo. I have heard that Nioxin hair product is good.

Ummm just to let you know Tinea versicolor has NOTHING to do with hair. I have had this forever and is usually genetic. My father is BALD and gets it. EVERYONE has this. Basically a build up of oil in the skin that a fungus thrives on. It's just something that is usually washed off before it has a chance to show up. NOTHING TO DO WITH HAIR except that sweating is the cause of it. Any place that sweat (and oil) gets trapped it will show up. I get it in the back of my knees and I can tell you that there is NO hair there. Dandruff shampoo (some) happen to have an ingredient that rids of the spots. I know everything there is to know about it (had to live with this growing up you see). Did I forget to mention that is has NOTHING TO DO WITH HAIR?

yes Engfant, your correct... But the topic is "alopacia" and that has nothing to do with "tanning" only hair..
