Does tanning help fade or hide stretch marks and varicous veins? i have both of these really bad from when i was Pregnant with my son.

How old are your stretch marks? If they are new, tanning will make them look worse. Also if they are new, get an Rx for RetinA and it will help diminish the marks. DO NOT TAN if you use RetinA. My mom did this and is was a nightmare! Striae is good for both older and new marks. Do not tan if you are treating stretch marks, it will break down the collagen you are trying to build

My marks are 16 yrs old.. and yes, tanned they look worse. Too bad... I would pay ANYTHING to get them removed.. but so far... NO ONE can really do it. Tummy Tuck... that's it... anyone on this board know of something that works. NO LOTION wil.. but maybe a treatment at a docs?... I would kill to remove them... I am a small gal.. and if it were not for the darn marks on the belly.. I could wear a regular bikini verses the shorts... any one??? Miracle???

Remember that these marks are like a torn carpet padding under the carpet......
It ripples and has no elastin anymore.....
I would say if they are this old......you are basicly with them for life.... Go see a Plastics MD and see if he can not suggest maybe some tucking or removal..
If you don't want to be cut on........well.........
Look at it this way....
You have a beautiful child and your body brought it forth...
You are still beautiful.......and you are a mom!!!!!!!!!!

A good soloution to the marks is a pulsing laser. I can't remember the exact name of the laser now, but I will look it up. Call cosmetic dermatologists in your area about this treatment. Also check with plastic surgeons about the laser. A tummy tuck WILL NOT diminish marks. If you were to have a tummy tuck and you have deep marks, all you would have is wide marks...

Try Striae and the laser...

Giacinta:
Depending on where the marks are...body contouring may help..
remember removing the skin in any area will leave a lined scar......but if the surgery goes well it may just be a hair line that can be covered with your swim wear, or panties.......

We have seen some very wonderful results on patients. It depends on the marks location.

I do agree that some of the lasers on the market are showing fantastic results.
Be very sure the Doctor you visit is a Board Certified one who has a proven success track record.

AUSTIN, Texas--Stretch marks are not a happy subject for women or men--and tanners, looking for a healthy appearance, would rather they disappear altogether. Although most information is purely speculative about the cause and "cure" for stretch marks, there are still a few ways to treat them in various stages.

According to Joanne Kabak, writer for drkoop.com, doctors are unsure what causes stretch marks in the first place, nor are they sure how many people actually suffer from the condition; however, there are some things that can be done to change the appearance of stretch marks, or eliminate them completely.

According to Dr. Charles J. Lockwood, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at New York University School of Medicine, stretch marks actually are tears in the dermis, the layer of tissue under the skin. A breakdown of skin elastin, the elastic fibers that make skin stretch, creates a scar and that scar cannot be erased.

However, according to Dr. Jeffrey Sklar, director for the Center of Aesthetic Dermatology in Woodbury, N.Y., people do not recognize stretch marks when they start--often they are thought to be a rash. However, this is the best time to treat them. Doctors advise topical applications and massage during this early period.

Doctors also say laser and surgical procedures can be used; however, the procedures themselves may not be cost effective or could leave a scar of their own.

As it stands, people are recommended to use cocoa butter or lotion and massage their skin during periods of life when the skin is stretching, such as puberty, pregnancy or even when weight lifting. Most likely, simple treatments can change, though maybe not eliminate, the largest of scars.
