One of the salons I consult called today, said a client called and claimed to have contracted this staff infection from either her bed or her towels. Said the symptoms (red bumps on her legs - similar to heat rash) started within 24 hours after tanning. Also said once you have it, you never get rid of it (i.e. herpes).

In 5 years I've never heard of it. She's only been open 4 months and is freeked out!

I found one reference here (2 actually but the same medical quote)

She's a new client, second tan. The salon is only 4 months old, and already has experienced some of the weird things we've all laughed/gagged about. This is a new one to me.

True story..I did get foliculitis about 5 years ago. A bacteria that invades hair folicles. I had to stop tanning and take antibiotics for about six weeks to get rid of it. You usually get it on your legs. I was competing in triathlons at the time and yes, shaving my legs..That is why females will be the ones to get it..unless you have runners or swimmers that tan there.

Here is what I found for you ......
1st I'd like to know why she would say she got this from your studio?
I assume you are clean......
Do you have the guest sanitize the units or do you or your team do it?

This bacteria can be "picked up" just about any where!
What is she looking for out of this deal??????????
Lets look at three different yet the same type of bacteria reactions......
Folliculitis - infection of the hair pores .... Furuncle (Boil) - infection of the hair pores and surrounding tissues..... Carbuncle - multiple furuncles and infection of surrounding tissue...

What are Folliculitis and Furuncle (Boil) ?
Folliculitis is a superficial inflammation of the hair follicle (hair pore) caused by bacteria..... When the infection affects several hair follicles and the adjacent tissue, it is called a furuncle (boil). What are the presenting features of Folliculitis ? ....The folliculitis usually affect the scalp, face, trunk and legs.... The hair follicles are surrounded by either small pockets of pus or small red lumps......Sometimes, many adjacent hair follicles are affected at the same time giving rise to what is commonly known as boil or furuncle..... In such instances, surgical drainage of the pus may have to be carried out besides antibiotic tablets.........How are Folliculitis and Furuncles treated ???? In mild cases, antiseptic wash and an antibiotic creams such as ELICINA® can easily eradicate the problem. Oral antibiotics are needed for extensive or severe cases.

So the statement that once you have it never goes away is BUNK....
Be VERY sure you don't buy into this womans BS....

PS just to be safe call you insurance company and tell them you think you have a person looking for something they DON'T deserve!!!!!!!!!!

It's very possible that this person went to a doctor that is Anti-tanning and he has told her it came from tanning and that she can never tan again as a way of scaring her away from tanning ever again. I sure wouldn't put that past some doctors.

Thanks you guys! Christine you're amazing! Yes I believe she wanted something, and yes the salon owner called her insurance agent who only scared her worse. She feels much better now - thanks again!!!!!
