Rep Power: 0 | neon beach, DHA is the major compotent in the sunless tanning business either as a bronzer, airbrush solution , or self-tanner. It is an extemely unstable chemical and it is from sugar cane. Look for products that either have both of erythulose(sp) and it will perform for you much better and have a longer shelf life. DHA will not necessarily unevenly tan you if the products was manufacturered properly and applied properly by the client. In addition why would you ever want to combine a self tanning product and want a glycolic acid or any acid that is an exfoliator /peeling agent? Don't know where you got your information but I would check for secondary opinions. I keep reading your post and the staining of the hands and feet has always been an issue. I always recommend to apply moisturizer to the hands and ankle/knee areas first to prevent the collection of the self tanner collecting in the cracks of these areas. Please tell us who told this facts? |

Rep Power: 0 | Gottaknow, Good advice regarding sunless spray-on solution with both DHA and Erythrulos. Results do tend to improve with the combination. There is an ideal proportion of DHA to Erythrulos that yields the best results, however many companies do not formulate with enough Erythrulos (I have experimented with just about every sunless solution out there). The problem is it costs a lot more money to put the Erythrulos in a solution , so (typical to our industry) there are a lot of label claims that do not follow through on the results they deliver. Just for the record, I do not believe that Erythrulos has any preserving qualities, so I am not certain why you would think that it somehow extends shelf life. If you check a Material Safety Data Sheet from a supplier of Dihydroxyacetone you will find that they state the shelf life is 280 and that DHA is very difficult to preserve beyond that time. Does anyone have an indoor tanning lotion that lists Dihydroxyacetone in the ingredients and that has been sitting on their shelf for a couple of months? Unscrew the cap and you will notice the product is probably 1) Crusty and crystalized, 2) Running and separated, and/or 3) Possessing a foul odor. That is what you get when DHA degrades over a brief period of time. Everyone should check their shelves and list the products and what you found wrong with them. I would be interested to see what we can all find. It’s like a virtual science experiment… |

Rep Power: 0 | A "Best If Used By __/__/__" stamp? Interesting idea, but I don't see how the manufacturers could do it without the distributors pushing back. Manufacturers warehouse their products for probably a month or two before they ship when fulfilling a distributor's order. The distributors buy in bulk to get volume discounts, so lotions sit in their warehouse for how long? 6 months? How could they ever sell lotions to salons that have a 240 days gone on a product that has a 280 day shelf life? At least that would be the case with products that contain DHA. My bet is that you will never see an expiration date on a bottle of lotion. So why be suprised when lotions smell funny, get runny, or crusty? |
